TECNO is not resting on its laurels, as a new TECNO POP 9 series will further strengthen its stake in the budget smartphone segment. Recent listings in the IMEI database by Gizmochina have further nailed the development of two new models under the same POP 9 banner.
Although very little information has been tipped on the makeup of the Tecno POP 9 series, early indications are that it may follow a dual-model approach. The POP 9 4G, in particular, is said to be building on the premises of its forerunner, the POP 8, as it is also tipped to come equipped with the same Unisoc T606 processor.
On the other hand, the POP 9 5G promises a more substantial upgrade with a dedicated 5G chipset. Sadly, not much is known about the type of processor this variant shall come with.
Model numbers are indicative of the series: KL4 for the POP 9 4G, and KL8 for the POP 9 5G. With an announcement of the POP 8 back in October 2023, many eyes are on that same window for the release of the POP 9 series. An official release date has not yet been announced.
While we are expecting the list of features with respect to the POP 9 series, revisiting the Tecno POP 8 may give some hints. The POP 8 is powered by a Unisoc T606 processor and up to 4GB RAM and 128GB storage, making it value for money. Its 5,000mAh battery and Android 13 Go Edition do their best to make this device more desirable.
While it’s the POP 9 series that is going to bring some refinements and improvements, it is the POP 8 that really serves as the benchmark, at least in terms of understanding the target market and the feature set.
