Your phone holds personal info, photos, and access to accounts. Here’s how Android is getting smarter to prevent theft, automatically lock if stolen, and help you regain control:
- Before Theft:
- Factory Reset Protection makes stolen phones unusable.
- Private Space hides sensitive apps with a separate PIN.
- More steps & PIN required for critical settings changes.
- Enhanced authentication protects accounts even if your PIN is known.
- During Theft:
- Theft Detection Lock (Android 15) automatically locks if your phone is snatched.
- Offline Device Lock (Android 10+) automatically locks if unplugged for a long time.
- After Theft:
- Remote Lock (Android 10+) lets you lock your phone using your phone number, even if you forget your password.
These features roll out through Google Play updates(Android 10+; some features will only be available on Android 15) later this year.
