The delay of the Android 15 release may be linked to improving its stability.
Google Pixels are always ahead in receiving the next major Android version and their software support can go beyond the standard two years. But for the upcoming Android 15, owners of eligible Pixels, including the current Pixel 9 Series, have to wait until October.
This year, Android is a bit weird. Google didn’t ship out the Android 15 version with the latest Pixel series. The series was also launched with four models instead of two.
According to a report, this is the third time the company will roll out a major Android upgrade in October. Android 14 was launched on October 4, 2023 for Pixel devices while the version better than came out on August 15, 2022, the earliest release. Android 12 was launched on October 19, 2021.
But why delay Android 15? It could simply be polishing the commercial release for stability reasons. Regardless, the Pixel devices eligible for this version include:
- Google Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold
- Google Pixel 8, Pixel 8a, Pixel 8 Pro
- Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7a, Pixel 7 Pro
- Google Pixel 6, Pixel 6a, Pixel 6 Pro
- Google Pixel Tablet
- Google Pixel Fold
If your device never receives the update this year or the next, it’s likely at the end of its life cycle. The standard software support of Android is two years for major upgrades and three years for security updates. Pixels, however, can go beyond like seven years for the Pixel 9 Series.
