Top 5 most exciting smartphone technology advancements to expect in 2023!

Do you ever have the impression that phones in general have not really made ground breaking advancement foe the past couple of years. Now that the year 2023 has arrived, here are some new developments in the smartphone industry that are worth your attention.

1. 1-inch Camera Sensor Breakthrough

2022 was the year that all major manufacturers of cell phones were making efforts in mobile imaging, the most representative one may be the Xiaomi 12S Ultra, the combination of a one-inch large base and periscopic telephoto can be said to be the benchmark.

It is anticipated that more manufacturers will introduce 1-inch outsole + periscopic telephoto lens cell phones in 2023. Of course, hardware stacking is only one aspect of cell phone images; software tweaking and optimization will be more crucial. The knowledge and quality of the top mobile imaging manufacturers will determine this.

Xiaomi has already begun polishing Sony IMX989 again with new optical parts. While some producers produce 1-inch sensors with higher standards. There may even be new machines on the 1-inch main camera + 2G+6P + variable aperture combo shipped by the industry chain side this year. A 1-inch main camera with a glass + plastic variable aperture construction is not just a pipe dream.

2. Fast Charging Technology

Despite 120W fast charging is more than sufficient, manufacturers are continually working on enhancements. Fast charging of 150W, 165W, and even 210W has recently become commonplace.

The 240W rapid charging system from Realme, which will debut with the GT Neo5 next month, is the next development. This is a significant advancement in smartphone technology because the Realme 240W flash charging will this time achieve the utmost power possible under Type-C 3.1.

3. OPPO’s MariSilicon Y Commercial Debut

In 2023, OPPO’s Find X6 Series of smartphones are slated to introduce the new MariSilicon Y audio-specific chipset. Following the successful debut of MariSilicon X, which elevated OPPO’s camera quality to a new level, this chip is the company’s second self-research chip. The MariSilicon Y chip is expected to include a number of new functions and capabilities and is specifically made to enhance audio quality.

The MariSilicon Y chip’s ultra-high-speed Bluetooth solution, which is incorporated to achieve a 400% quicker communication rate than conventional Bluetooth, is one of its distinguishing advantages. Additionally, the chip features OPPO’s proprietary URLC lossless coding, a performance leader in R&D that for the first time enables 192 KHz/24 bit lossless audio wireless transmission.

As a result, customers will be able to stream lossless audio at high quality levels wirelessly. The Find X6 Series will likely offer better overall audio performance thanks to the MariSilicon Y chip, making it the perfect gadget for audiophiles and music enthusiasts.

4. 3nm Process

The A17 chip, which will power the iPhone 15, is now being produced using the TSMC 3nm technology. Samsung also indicated that it would begin using the 3nm process in the first half of last year.

According to TSMC, the 3nm technology will boost transistor density by roughly 70% while reducing power consumption by 25% to 30% and improving performance by 10% to 15%. As can be observed from the TSMC 3nm process, the key goals are to decrease the phone’s energy usage and increase battery life and performance.

The two Android chip goliaths Qualcomm and MediaTek are expected to join TSMC in using the 3nm process at some point, and by that time the phone’s chip will be able to introduce a new upgrade.

5. Foldable Phones

Another area where technology could develop in 2023 is foldable displays. Many manufacturers, including Samsung and Huawei, have introduced foldable cellphones in recent years. These devices have, however, encountered several difficulties, including problems with durability and a dearth of system and software optimizations.

Foldable smartphones may become more practical and user-friendly as manufacturers continue to advance the technology behind foldable displays. These advancements might include more flexible and robust folding screens, as well as greater system and app integration.

The price of phones with flexible displays is another area that might advance in 2023. Foldable cellphones’ appeal to mainstream users is now limited by their high price. The cost of foldable display technology is likely to continue to be reduced by manufacturers, making it more affordable for a larger variety of users. This will most likely be accomplished through economies of scale, improvements in production methods, and a decrease in the price of the components necessary to make foldable screens.
