Despite its expensive price tag, the realme GT 6 still shines in the competition with so many impressive quirks.
The realme GT 6 is the brand’s current top offer when it comes to raw performance and gaming, augmented with AI and sprinkled with camera essentials. But is it worth every penny?
Display
The realme GT 6 sports a curved 6.78-inch LTPO OLED display screen. It’s massive, bright, and crispy. There are three max brightness levels on this smartphone:
- Typical: 1,000 nits
- High Brightness Mode: 1,600 nits
- Average Picture Level: 6,000 nits.
Keep in mind that the APL 6,000 nits brightness level is only active when you play HDR videos. Besides, you don’t need that much brightness level because the screen of the realme GT 6 is sufficiently bright enough even in outdoor settings.
Under the Display settings, usual options are available but here are the neat ones we found:
Display Features | Functionality |
Extra Brightness | Manually adjust the brightness beyond the max default. |
Screen Color Modes | Choose between presets or personalize your own color display preferences. |
Nature Tone Display | Adapt the screen to ambient lighting for consistent colors. |
Bright HDR Video Mode | Increase brightness when playing HDR videos. It may increase power consumption and phone temperature. |
Adaptive Sleep | Keep the screen on when you’re looking at it. |
Screen Resolution | Pick the resolution you prefer for sharper images or longer battery. |
The realme GT 6 has 2,160 Hz of PWM dimming to help reduce eye strain. But some users tend to raise the brightness level beyond 50%. This phone has an extra anti-flickering feature called One-Pulse EM mode that works when the brightness level is at least 50%.
Audio
Two speakers are responsible for the immersive audio experience on the realme GT 6. While the placement isn’t unique, the sounds are astounding.
Max volume on Wuthering Waves, particularly on the login screen, is remarkable with sufficient bass and treble without crackling.
If you love customizing sound output, check these out:
Audio Features | Functionality |
App-specific Volume | Control the volume of apps individually. |
OReality Audio | Enhance sounds using profiles like Smart, Movie, Gaming, and Music. |
Spatial Audio | Immerse in surround sound. |
Holo Audio | Choose the best spatial location for audio sources, such as notification, game sounds, and music. |
O-Haptics | Mimic sound interactions on the device through haptic feedback. |
Although these features may be found on some other phones, what we really liked is the compatibility with OTG audio connection. The above-mentioned features will work with your 3.5 mm headphone jack connected to a 3.5-mm-to-USB-C connector.
Gaming
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is what powers the realme GT 6. It isn’t a flagship processor but it has some modern stuff when compared to its predecessor. This chipset bears the Adreno 735 graphics.
With 12 GB of onboard memory, the smartphone is definitely a superb midranger capable of dishing out performance and smooth app experience. Plus, the device runs realme UI known for its reliability.
Honor of Kings, Wuthering Waves, Genshin Impact, and Honkai Impact: Star Rail are some of the games we tried. We can definitely say that the realme GT 6 is a powerful mobile gaming companion. Ultra graphics and max FPS are easy-peasy in general.
On the Home Screen, a dedicated section that looks like an app called “Games” is found. Here are some of the features included:
“Games” Features | Functionality |
Top-up Discount | Get discounts when you buy premium items/currencies. Payment channels like GCash and PayMaya are integrated. |
Quick Startup | Launch your frequently played games much faster. |
Auto Resolution | Automatically adjusts the resolution based on temperature and battery level. |
Games enlisted in the “Games” app can access the toolkit that you must swipe at the left side of the screen. This toolkit has many handy features, including:
Game Toolkit | Functionality |
Performance Modes | Choose between Low Power, Balanced, and GT modes. The modes mainly focus on the FPS and touch response. |
Touch Optimization | Prevent pulling the notification drawer. |
System Status | Show the FPS, GPU, and CPU counters. |
Autoplay | Lock and dim the screen to save power while gaming. |
Volume Settings | Control the volume of music and games separately. |
Voice Changer | Use various voice effects for in-game voice chats. |
The gaming toolkit includes Geek Power Tuning, which acts like an overclocking tool. It isn’t compatible with all games but it works on Genshin Impact. Check out its available tweaks for this game:
Geek Power Tuning | Effects |
CPU Performance | Adjust clock speeds; see below |
Little core: 1.2 GHz to 2.0 GHz. Default: 1.3 GHz.
Middle core: 1.8 GHz to 2.8 GHz. Default: 2.1 GHz.
Big core: 1.8 GHz to 3.0 GHz. Default: 2.2 GHz.
GPU Speed | 684 MHz to 1100 MHz. Default: 835 MHz. |
Under the Special Features, there’s a Dedicated RAM for Games where allocating memory to games helps boost loading times. We briefly tested it on Genshin Impact and it shortened the loading times by around three seconds.
Camera
A triple-rear camera setup is installed on the realme GT 6, with a 50 MP lens leading the team. Even though it isn’t a camera-centric phone, it’s not shy when it comes to moments. In fact, it comes with nifty tricks:
Camera Features | Effects |
Action Mode | Get stable captures on moving targets; limited to 1x and 2x zooming. |
Street Mode | Shoot subjects in 16/23/47/91 mm or go for auto-zoom in 23/47 mm. |
Image File Types | Capture images in JPG, RAW, and RAW+ types. |
Storage Efficiency | Use high-efficiency image and high-efficiency video to reduce file size without compromising quality. |
Audio Mode – Smart | Record stereo sound when recording in landscape mode. Reduce wind noise. |
Speaking of videos, the realme GT 6 can record up to 4K at 30/60 FPS without Ultra Steady, which only works up to 1080p at 60 FPS. For better video quality, use HDR video with Dolby Vision that works up to 4K at 30 FPS.
AI
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is a mid-range CPU with multiple AI features. That’s why the realme GT 6 boasts AI functions too!
- AI Eraser: Use generative AI to erase unwanted artifacts and objects in photos; no more photobombers.
- AI Screen Recognition: Detects and extracts text and images on screenshots; useful when you need to get info quickly.
- AI Smart Loop: Recommends apps based on context extracted by AI Screen Recognition.
Power
A 5,500 mAh dual-cell battery is energizing the realme GT 6 and you can juice it up fast with 120 W of rapid charging. But isn’t that bad for the battery? Not if you turn on the following battery features:
- Smart Rapid Charging: Intelligently increase charging rate when the device needs to be charged quickly.
- Smart Charging: Smartly adapt to your habits and charging patterns.
- Stop at 80%: Halts charging once the battery reaches 80% to slow down battery aging.
Save more power by putting rarely used apps to Frozen status. Frozen apps won’t use power but they won’t receive notifications and work in the background.
Thermal
Heat is a bane of gadgets and realme GT 6 has a counter for this. A large nine-layer cooling system helps pull the heat to the surface so it can disperse easily. This is very important when you’re charging your phone, gaming, or using the camera.
Don’t be fooled easily that the phone gets too warm when you’re gaming. This is because the heat is likely getting pulled to the surface, hence the high temperature. But check the estimated temperature and be surprised that it isn’t even near critical. This is how passive cooling systems should work.
Durability
Considering the price point, it’s only normal that the realme GT 6 gets some degree of durability. At the front is the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 to shield the AMOLED panel from damage due to accidental bumps and drops.
All around is IP65 dust and water resistance. The phone is dust tight and can resist water jets from every direction. Just keep in mind that IP65 only blocks water jets from the outside.
Privacy
Here, we’ll highlight two major privacy features for apps and storage. The first is the Multiple User that provides a dedicated space for each user.
The second is System Cloner. It creates a separate partition that requires a unique password and fingerprint to open.
Downsides
realme GT 6 isn’t without faults and we listed a few of them below:
- No SD card: 256 GB onboard storage is big but it won’t be enough when you combine tons of apps, games, and media files. You’ll have to settle with cloud or OTG storage.
- No headphone jack: Listening to the impressive sound of the phone needs USB-C wired connectivity.
- No bypass charging: Mobile gamers can’t get near a console-like experience because the phone must be charged from time to time.
Final Thoughts
Back to the question: is the realme GT 6 worth buying? Yes it is.
There are alternatives, of course, but if you take into account the reliable UI, 1 Hz power-saving refresh rate from LTPO OLED, new AI processor, curved display, turbo charging, durability, good cameras, and solid audio, the realme GT 6 is a jam-packed mobile gizmo.
It’s expensive yet it has things that some alternatives can’t give and some of these are meticulous for many users. We’ll compare the realme GT 6 to these alternatives so you’ll know the major differences.
But for now, check out the full specs of the realme GT 6 below.
