Trump admin banks heavily on AI development

The tech industry seems to be on top of Pres. Trump’s priority as he announces a joint venture with known tech giants such as OpenAI, Oracle, SoftBank, and other industry titans. The US government will initially invest $100 billion in the venture, but could reach $500 billion.

Present in the announcement were OpenAI’s Sam Altman, Oracle’s Larry Ellison, and SoftBanks’s Masayoshi Son which Trump referred to in his speech as “high quality people.”

The project, known as Stargate, has already started building out data centers in Texas. Oracle’s Larry Ellison has stated that the project could potentially be useful in generating a vaccine for such illnesses as cancer.

Trump emphasized the effect that this venture will have in boosting the US economy but experts predict this has deeper repercussions. Especially with regards to the ongoing global AI race between China and the United States. Many are worried that this move could amplify the ongoing competition between the two superpowers and usher in a more AI dependent US, displacing more professions along the way.
