UD Why: OPPO Reno12 F 5G, an AI powerhouse for PHP 19K?

AI features, premium visuals, and premium price tag seemingly define the OPPO Reno12 F 5G.

The OPPO Reno12 F 5G just landed and it offers a lot of AI-centric features for users to enjoy. But the steep price of 19K begs a question: is this AI powerhouse worth every penny? Let’s unpack this AI-oriented device!

The OPPO Reno12 F 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor, Mali-G57 graphics, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB ROM, and 5,000 mAh battery with 45 W fast charging. There’s nothing really wrong with this setup. Though, is that all for 19K?

The smartphone comes with a 6.67-inch OLED panel that supports 1080p resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. The main cameras are composed of three lenses in 50 + 8 + 2 MP configuration with a 32 MP shooter placed at the front. Triple cameras and single selfie shooters are typical but that screen for 19K? No LTPO?

It’s only right to highlight its AI features. According to OPPO, the Reno12 F 5G boasts an AI Eraser 2.0 to remove unwanted elements on pics, AI Smart Image Matting 2.0 to cut out people and pets from photos, AI Studio for artistic rendition of selfies and groufies, and AI LinkBoost for better connectivity regardless of network condition.

Another worth mentioning feature is the BeaconLink that lets you make calls using Bluetooth to nearby users. It’s a handy tool when there’s no signal.

UD Why for 19K? The AI features are great on their own yet they’re not groundbreaking that make flagships or other mid-rangers obsolete. Remember, there are apps in the Play Store that support AI features for images and they only need an AI-ready processor, regardless of the model.

While we’re not discounting the innovative approaches of the brand, the Dimensity 6300 isn’t impressive on the OPPO Reno12 F 5G. It can only punch over 460,000 AnTuTu points; not even 500K.

It isn’t even a match to the 1.4 million AnTuTu points of the Dimensity 8300 Ultra which has better neural processing cores. It’s powering the POCO X6 Pro 5G, which costs only 17K for the 8+256 GB variant. You may need a good camera app for this one, however.

The package of the OPPO Reno12 F 5G is solid on its own – specs, features, and all. Perhaps the brand may want to reconsider the price to increase its appeal to non-OPPO users.

Would you buy the OPPO Reno12 F 5G for 19K?
