UD Versus: Infinix GT 30 vs. POCO X7

Alright, we’re back once again with another UD Versus, and this comparison was just too good to pass up. The phones going head-to-head today are the not-so-new but newly launched in the Philippines Infinix GT 30, a high-performance gaming phone, and POCO’s definitely not new non-Pro X7.

A close-up comparison of the camera modules of two phones resting on a green cutting mat. The left phone (Infinix GT 30) has a vertical rectangular module. The right phone (POCO X7) has a large, silver circular module with four lenses.

These phones are more than just a shadow of their Pro sibling, they’re working on a class of their own. Both offer top notch performance without the hefty price tag.

If that’s the case, which phone should YOU get?

Round 1: Design & Display

Design-wise, these phones couldn’t be more different than each other. One is unapologetically gamer-inspired while the other seems to take a more subtle approach in its design. Bet you already know which is which, right?

Like its Pro sibling, the Infinix GT 30 embraces a loud cyberpunk-inspired design, especially with its signature dynamic lighting on the back called mechanical light waves. And that lighting isn’t just for show, it also serves a more practical purpose when gaming, playing music or receiving notifications. And keeping up with its tough looks, the GT 30 also has an IP64 dust and water resistance rating.

Meanwhile, the POCO X7 which was released earlier this year, takes a more subtle but equally premium approach. Featuring a sleek, curved-edge AMOLED display, it’s a phone that you can daily if you want to fly under the radar. But make no mistake, despite its premium design, it still offers an ample amount of protection, coming equipped with an IP68 dust and water resistance rating.

Two smartphones standing upright side-by-side against an orange background. The phone on the left displays a green, abstract wallpaper, and the phone on the right displays a blue, curved, wave-like wallpaper. Both have a hole-punch front camera cutout.

Moving on to the display, both come equipped with an AMOLED display, but as far as similarities go, that’s about it. The Infinix GT 30 is a bit bigger at 6.78-inch compared to the X7’s 6.67-inch. It’s also brighter and faster with a peak brightness of 4500 nits and a refresh rate of 144Hz. Meanwhile, the POCO X7 can only muster a peak brightness of 3,000 nits and a refresh rate of 120Hz.

Winner: If it still isn’t clear by now, the Infinix GT 30 5G wins by a mile. Design is always a subjective matter but the additional dynamic lighting that not only amplifies the gamer spirit but also aids the user and the larger, brighter, and faster display proves that the GT 30 deserves the W.

Round 2: Performance

Now this is where both phones shine. After all, they’re made to offer the best gaming experience possible at the smallest amount of money.

Both phones come equipped with MediaTek’s Dimensity 7000 series chipset, with the GT 30 having the newer Dimensity 7400 and the POCO X7 having last year’s Dimensity 7300 Ultra. But how big is the difference between the two? Well look no further because we did the numbers.

Despite being built on the same 4nm process node and having the same GPU, albeit with a higher GPU frequency, the Dimensity 7400 does offer more than marginal gains. On our testing, the Dimensity 7400 found on the Infinix GT 30 boasted an AnTuTu Benchmark score of 991,557 while the POCO X7 with the older Dimensity 7300 Ultra fell a bit short, only mustering a score of 862,227.

It all boils down to each phones’ implementation and optimization. Obviously, we can’t quantize the efficiency of both the OSes but we can judge based on the gaming-focused features. Every phone nowadays has their own take on an AI-powered game control panel, Infinix calls theirs XBOOST AI while POCO calls theirs GAME TURBO.

But that’s not all that the Infinix GT 30 offers, besides XBOOST AI, they’ve also incorporated ZoneTouch Master that intelligently recognizes and optimizes gaming control zones. And we would be remiss if we didn’t mention the GT Trigger which brings the game to a whole ‘nother level.

Winner: The Infinix GT 30 takes another round, not just because of its newer chipset but because it offers a lot more than a performance boost.

Round 3: Camera

Because these are gaming-focused devices, one would assume that all the resources would be put into improving the performance thus sacrificing other aspects of the phone such as the camera. Well that’s no longer the case with both of these phones.

While it may not be iPhone-level photography, the cameras on both of these phones are more than adequate for your daily social media updates.

  • Infinix GT 30 – Features a dual-camera setup consisting of a 64 MP main sensor and an 8 MP ultrawide sensor. At the front, you’ll find a 13 MP sensor for your selfies and video calls. Despite being out-camera’d, the GT 30 does have one trick up its sleeves, the GT Triggers. The triggers are highly customizable, ranging from being a shutter button, pause/play controls when playing a video, to quickly launching your preferred app.

  • POCO X7 – POCO one-ups Infinix with one more lens, featuring a triple-camera system consisting of a 50 MP main sensor with Optical Image Stabilization, an 8 MP ultrawide lens, and a 2 MP macro. While the front features a 20 MP selfie shooter.

Winner: On paper, we’d have to give the W to the POCO X7. It features 1 more lens to the GT 30’s dual camera setup, plus, it has OIS which greatly helps in capturing clear and steady shots. It all boils down to what looks good for you, after all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Round 4: Battery & Charging

Since these phones are made specifically for gaming, it’s only fitting that they would have batteries that can last you through the day. Well, not to worry, because these phones pack a large enough battery that you can leave your charger at home.

Speaking of charging, both phones support 45W wired fast charging but only the GT 30 supports both 10W reverse charging and bypass charging, which lets you power the phone directly from the charging, bypassing the battery and preventing heat build up which kills your battery health.

Last but not the least is the capacity. The Infinix GT 30’s 5,500 mAh battery trumps the POCO X7’s 5,110 mAh. We can’t say for sure how these numbers translate in real world usage but if we were to use the capacity as a basis, we’d say bigger IS better.

Winner: The Infinix GT 30 wins again! (for obvious reasons…)

Round 5: Price & Value

Probably the most important round for many. This is where we determine which is truly the best bang for your buck.

  • Infinix GT 30: At retail, the GT 30 sells for ₱11,999 for the sole 8/256GB variant. But if you’re one of the lucky ducks who gets to take advantage of the early-bird pricing, then you can cop one at ₱10,499 and that includes the GT 30 MagCooling Fan if you’re really lucky.
  • POCO X7: When it was first launched, it had a retail price of ₱14,999 for the same storage but since it’s already been 8 months when the X7 was first launched, it has gone down quite a bit. When this article was written, the going price for the POCO X7 was ₱12,549.

Winner: The Infinix GT 30 still leads.

UD Verdict: Which Budget Beast Should You Buy?

Back view of the Infinix GT 30 series gaming smartphone, featuring a vibrant black and electric blue cyberpunk-style geometric design, with the camera module visible at the top left, all set against a bright yellow-orange background.

The Infinix GT 30 clearly dominated, winning every round of our UD Versus challenge. But that’s not to say that the POCO X7 didn’t put up a fight, it did, it’s just that the Infinix GT 30 has features that elevates the playing field to a whole ‘nother level.

A close-up shot of a person's hands holding the back of the Infinix GT 30 series gaming smartphone horizontally. The phone's back has a dark, geometric design, with the camera module visible on the right.

Offering 144Hz display, a better(ish) chipset, console-like GT Triggers, and depending on your taste, a bold, flashy, yet practical design that will definitely catch eyes wherever you go. Not to mention the hard to resist price which severely undercuts the competition and further solidifies its place in the budget gaming beast segment.

The Infinix GT 30 delivers on its promise of a pure, uncompromised gaming phone for the masses.
