Unboxing the HUAWEI MatePad Pro 12.2″ (2025): Simply Genius

Huawei has consistently pushed the boundaries of innovation, and their latest offering, the HUAWEI MatePad Pro 12.2″, is no exception. Branded as a Genius 3-in-1 Tablet PC, and honestly? That label doesn’t even begin to cover how versatile this thing is.

Does it live up to the hype? Let’s dive in and see if it truly has what it takes to be your next professional device.

Unboxing

The HUAWEI MatePad Pro 12.2” comes in a very elegant yet unassuming box. It’s encapsulated in a white box with very few elements other than the name that’s written in gold lettering and some of the standout features that it has.

Slide the top cover upwards and you’ll immediately be greeted by the MatePad Pro 12.2”. Setting that aside will reveal a microfiber cloth to clean the PaperMatte display which we’ll talk more about later.

After that you’ll find the included Glide Keyboard, which we’ll also get into later on. Lift that up and you’ll see two compartments, however, only one can be opened which will reveal the charging brick as well as the USB Type-C cable.

There’s really not much fanfare going on, but you’ll have all that you need to start working.

Design

Right out of the box, the MatePad Pro 12.2″ already feels like a statement piece. It’s sleek, light, and surprisingly thin for something this powerful. Measuring just 5.5mm thick and weighing 512g, it feels more like a magazine than a tablet PC.

Our unit came in a gorgeous green finish — not your usual tech gray. This one’s got layers (literally) with a multi-optical design that mimics the texture of silk. Smooth, elegant, and surprisingly grippy.

But the real flex? That Genius Keyboard. It magnetically snaps in place, hides the M-Pencil like a secret weapon, and folds open like you’re about to present a TED Talk. One-hand operation? Check. Multi-angle hovering? Check. It’s not just a keyboard — it’s a whole PC vibe.

It allows for a “Work mode in 1 second” with a single-step open/close and one-hand operation, offering multi-angle hovering for comfortable and stain-resistant use. This keyboard truly provides a PC-Like Experience with full-size typing and a touchpad.

Display

The 12.2-inch Tandem OLED PaperMatte Display is undoubtedly one of the HUAWEI MatePad Pro 12.2″‘s crowning jewels. It’s Huawei’s answer to visual fatigue, and it hits differently. You get vibrant colors, a buttery smooth feel, and no screen glares — even in direct light.

This dual-layer OLED screen delivers unmatched brightness and clarity, boasting a 92% ultra-high screen-to-body ratio, with no notch and slim bezels, creating an immersive viewing experience.

HUAWEI has also addressed eye comfort with pioneering anti-sparkle technology, ensuring zero screen flicker and reduced eye strain, along with an anti-glare coating for a fatigue-free office experience. The display offers 2,000 nits peak brightness and a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio, ensuring professional color management.

Performance & Productivity: Your Portable Powerhouse

During the first part, we remarked that the HUAWEI MatePad Pro 12.2” is gunning to be a 3-in-1 Tablet PC, capable of doing all that a PC can do without the bulk. But why “3-in-1?” you might ask…The MatePad Pro 12.2″ isn’t just a tablet. It’s a laptop, sketchpad, and tablet all rolled into one.

At the forefront of it all is a PC-level productivity, all thanks to the included Glide Keyboard, free copy of a PC-level WPS Office, and HUAWEI Notes. Features like multi-window opening with support for up to 3 apps, as well as having the ability to unzip large files similar to how you would do it in a desktop PC or a laptop.

Need to take notes? The Nearlink M-Pencil pairs seamlessly with HUAWEI Notes, giving you smooth, real-time handwriting with AI enhancements, magnifiers, and lasso tools — plus that PaperMatte screen gives it a genuine pen-on-paper feel.

For the creatively inclined, HUAWEI includes their proprietary professional painting software, GoPaint, that introduces new features like frame-by-frame animation tools and a 3D Oil Painting Brush, along with basic highlights like Splatter Brush, Fluid Brush TrueColor, and an 8K Canvas with Realistic Features. You can also open PSD files if you ever need to edit or collaborate with your officemates.

Battery

All this power needs juice, and the MatePad Pro delivers with a massive 10,100mAh battery. Whether you’re in back-to-back Zoom calls, editing thumbnails, or binge-watching after work, this tablet is down for the ride — no charger panic attacks necessary.

Final Thoughts

After spending a bit of time with it, it’s clear the HUAWEI MatePad Pro 12.2” isn’t just another Android tablet. It’s a well-thought-out, premium, all-in-one machine that’s gunning for professionals, creatives, and anyone who wants a no-compromise work-and-play experience.

From that gorgeous OLED PaperMatte display to the ridiculously clever keyboard and stylus system, everything about it screams functionality and flair.
