iOS 18 seems to know how to manage the cores of A17 Pro much better than iOS 17.
There are many reasons why iPhone 15 Pro owners should upgrade to iOS 18, like experiencing Apple Intelligence. But if that doesn’t interest you, perhaps a boon to the battery life will.
That’s what a Chinese blogger discovered and revealed online. iOS 18 appears to have better CPU management capabilities when compared to iOS 17.
The blogger tested the battery life of iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, both upgraded to iOS 18, on different activities, such as browsing, video calls, and gaming. The upgrade significantly added several minutes to a few hours to both iPhones.
From iOS 17 lasting 6 hours and 22 minutes, the iPhone 15 Pro lasted 6 hours and 55 minutes on iOS 18. The iPhone 15 Pro Max only lasted 7 hours and 56 on iOS 17, but jumped to 9 hours and 2 minutes on iOS 18.
How did that happen? The logic may be behind the software design of iOS 18 where it has more accurate control of the CPU cores, enabling it to delay the increase in clock speed and extend power saving duration for simple or shorter tasks. Perhaps this design is linked to the rumored “extended energy management.”
The effect also looks evident on the iPhone 16 Series with the iPhone 16 Pro Max lasting up to 10 hours and 23 minutes, iPhone 16 Pro up to 8.5 hours, and iPhone 16 Plus up to 10 hours. But then again, this series has better battery capacity.
