vivo V30 Pro 5G Full Review: Iconic optics, design, and performance

The vivo V30 Pro 5G is an icon! Be awed by its cameras, sheer performance, and breathtaking visuals.

vivo recently launched the newest V series, the vivo V30 Pro 5G. It has an eye-catching design that captures the soul of Southeast Asia. But under this style are Zeiss optics, high-powered processor, and enduring battery to let you take on challenges with grace and elegance.

Unboxing

The vivo V30 Pro 5G comes in a typical rectangular packaging. Once the cover is lifted, the handset will greet you. Below it is a white separator where you can find the rest of stuff to get you started.

The smartphone comes with some paperwork, a SIM tray ejector pin, a phone case, a USB-A to USB-C charging cable, and a charging brick. Only one variant of the vivo V30 Pro 5G is available in the country and that’s with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of onboard storage.

A single punch hole cutout is found on the display for the selfie camera. Three camera lenses and an LED flash are placed inside two squarish camera modules.

The top area features a microphone and a receiver, while the bottom area includes the speaker grille, microphone, SIM card tray, and USB port. No 3.5mm headphone jack on this phone, however.

The power key and volume rockers are on the right side while the left side is clean and smooth. Viewing the device horizontally will make you marvel at its incredible curvedness; sexy and daring.

Design

The design of vivo V30 Pro 5G is a feast for the eyes. That single variant we mentioned is called Petals White. Not only it reflects the soul of Southeast Asia, but it also blends well in whatever fashion style you prefer to match it with.

Added to its beautiful back design, the camera island is minimalistic and fashionable. But don’t you dare think that the cameras are dull and incapable because they are Zeiss standards.

The vivo V30 Pro 5G is very thin at 7.45mm – the thinnest phone in the market with a 5000mAh battery. That’s a tanky battery enveloped in an ultra-slim profile and 3D petal pattern. Plus, this phone is very light at 185g, one of the lightest in the market today.

The combination of thinness and curved screen may take some time to get used to, especially if this is your first vivo smartphone. But after getting acquainted with the profile, you’ll never go back to bulky forms.

We tested the grip and comfort while holding the vivo V30 Pro 5G. Without its case, the phone definitely has a good grip, thanks to its gritty back that will remind you of pearls. Thus, the vivo V30 Pro 5G isn’t slippery and doesn’t attract fingerprints and smudges if you hold it with bare hands.

Of course, you can use the phone case for better grip and more comfort. Although it attracts prints and smudges, the material is not slippery and is easy to clean.

Display

Adding to the natural allure of vivo V30 Pro 5G is the 6.78-inch curved AMOLED screen. The display has an FHD+ resolution or 1260 x 2800 or 1.5K display – crispier than 1080p quality.

Giving that buttery smooth scrolling and navigating experience is the 120Hz refresh rate, which you can set as “always” or “auto” depending on your preference. If you’re an outgoing person, the vivo V30 Pro 5G won’t be bothered by bright lights, thanks to its 2800 nits of peak brightness.

Although the screen is bright, clear, and crisp, it won’t hurt your eyes. vivo installed an eye protection system on V30 Pro 5G and it passed the SGS eye protection certification. Besides combating blue light, the screen has a 2160Hz high-frequency dimming to further prevent eye fatigue when using the phone.

To protect the screen and the entire phone, vivo added IP54 for dust and water resistance and Schott α glass on V30 Pro 5G for reinforcement. The back, meanwhile, has a higher metal bezel around the glass lens to prevent damage to the cameras if the phone is accidentally dropped.

Performance

Powering the vivo V30 Pro 5G is the MediaTek Dimensity 8200, a 4nm chipset with an AnTuTu score of 977,525 – a flagship-level processor. It’s also clocked at 3.1GHz and comes with numerous features for handling heavy demands and conserving power.

The vivo V30 Pro 5G is definitely a camera phone but it can actually play many mobile games, thanks to Mali-G610 GPU. Popular FPS and MOBAs are smooth and cool on this device.

Speaking of cool, vivo V30 Pro 5G has a large cooling system to chill itself under heavy use. The built-in “air conditioner” has a size of 35,141 square-millimeters, huge for a very slim smartphone.

This consists of 3,002mm2 vapor chamber, 27,939mm2 graphite area, and 4200mm2 copper foil. These three move the heat away from key hardware components to prevent overheating.

When we made a quick check of the temperature while playing Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and Call of Duty Mobile, the temperature did rise and the phone felt warm to touch. But the temperature only peaked between 37 and 38 degrees Celsius. It means that the cooling system is working.

That cooling system isn’t just for games. It’s very crucial when you take photos and record videos all day, particularly outdoors.

See the phone’s gaming performance below.

A dedicated gaming space is available on the vivo V30 Pro 5G. It includes a performance monitoring screen, performance mode presets, and the following:

Esports ModeHigh-performance configuration for esports players.
Off-Screen AutoplayKeep the game running while the screen is locked while conserving power.
View EnhancementEnhance the game picture using four options.
Frame-Rate PriorityLower game resolution to smoothen gameplay.

To multitask while gaming, use the Game Picture-in-Picture to bring up select apps in a small window.

Photography

ZEISS optics define vivo V30 Pro 5G with all three cameras at the back adhering to ZEISS standards. But before we go to the samples, have a quick look at the camera specs:

OIS

The primary sensor, Sony IMX920, is the largest one in the V series and is augmented by the vivo Camera-Bionic Spectrum (VCS). VCS helps the sensor to capture details closer to what our eyes see.

The secondary sensor, Sony IMX816, is designed for portrait captures, and with a focal length of 50mm, it allows you to get more natural results.

The tertiary sensor, JN1, lets you capture more subjects with an FOV of 119° and AI Group Portrait for enhanced results.

Check out the sample photos of vivo V30 Pro 5G below.

Selfies are managed by a 50MP sensor with an aperture of f/2.0 and FOV of 92°. Both the front and back camera systems can use exclusive ZEISS lens styles, enabling users to fully express their artistic ideas in photography.

You can use these styles to bring more life to your captures or spice them up by adding an interesting perspective.

See these styles in action below.

On top of ZEISS lens styles, vivo V30 Pro 5G features Aura Light 3.0. This exclusive lighting mechanic can dramatically improve results versus unfavorable lighting conditions.

Too much blue? Turn on Aura Light and adjust the slider to warm up the image. Too warm to look at? Use Aura Light to mitigate that. This feature works on the front and back cameras.

Videography

The vivo V30 Pro 5G can handle up to 4K at 60FPS video recording. During our recording using the phone, you can definitely see the differences of details between various resolutions.

Overall, the handset’s video recording has sufficient clarity, lighting, and color, with files ready for uploading. But based on our test, the 1080p at 30FPS is the best when making your own film.

At this resolution, everything looks sharp and clear, from the center to the very edges of the frame. Don’t mind the frame rate because films are shot at 24FPS to emphasize motion blur – an optical effect that makes moving objects appear out of focus.

So, use 1080p at 30FPS for a realistic, cinematic impression of your masterpiece.

Watch the clip below to see these resolutions and the video stabilization in action.

Additionally, you turn on Aura Light to improve your videos. Under dim-lit conditions, the feature gives your phone an excellent source of light so videos are clearer and brighter.

Here’s a clip of an interesting video effect, suitable when blogging or creating video diaries.

Battery

The curved body and slim profile of vivo V30 Pro 5G did not comprise its battery. It’s equipped with a 5000mAh battery pack, which supports 80W fast charging.

Under the Settings menu, you can find a variety of tools to extend battery life and manage battery-related functions.

Battery SaverLimit background activities, visual effects, and some features.
Super Battery SaverRestrict phone functionality and lower performance to save battery.
Optimize Battery LifeExtend the battery life by learning your charging habits.
Fast ChargingEnable/disable fast charging feature.

It’s worth mentioning that vivo disabled fast charging on V30 Pro 5G by default. This gives you full control over the feature.

Besides those, you can also use the automatic Battery Saver and auto-exit Battery Saver. The former activates when the battery level falls within the set values, between 10% and 90%, while the latter exits Battery Saver upon reaching 90% battery level.

Suggestions

The vivo V30 Pro 5G is solid across major user demands, including performance, gaming, photography, and battery. Its display panel screams “AWESOME!” while its distinct design pattern flaunts fashion like no other.

However, we have a few suggestions that vivo may want to add to the next V series:

  • Stereo Speakers: The vivo V30 Pro 5G only has a single but very impressive loudspeaker, so it would be nice to see the successor with stereo speakers for immersion.
  • Front-Facing LED flash: Aura Light is amazing in regulating color temperature during selfies but we wish to see its effects with a dedicated front LED flash.
  • USB-C to USB-C Cable: This isn’t a major thing but USB-C to USB-C is faster in charging and data transfer compared to USB-A to USB-C.

Conclusion

Besides the suggestions above, the vivo V30 Pro 5G truly meets the demands of casual users, content creators, influencers, and camera enthusiasts, no matter their generation. Thus, we give this smartphone a score of 4.5 stars.

The vivo V30 Pro 5G is now available on Shopee, Lazada, and the official vivo website for ₱34,999.
