vivo is pushing smartphone slow-motion video further with the upcoming X500 Pro series, which will support 4K video recording at 240fps.
According to vivo Product Manager Han Boxiao, the feature uses the ZEISS Super Dynamic main camera. Compared with standard 4K 30fps video, 4K 240fps captures eight times more frames, allowing footage to be slowed down while maintaining 4K resolution.
vivo is also working on 4K 480fps and 4K 960fps slow-motion modes. These will use the company’s in-house frame interpolation and video speed-mapping algorithms to deliver 16x and 32x slow motion while maintaining 4K output. The modes could be useful for capturing fast-moving scenes such as splashing liquids and bursting bubbles.
The camera bump is huge
An alleged real-life image also shows what appears to be the vivo X500 Pro Max beside the X300 Ultra.
The Pro Max appears to have a camera island stretching across almost the entire width of the phone. A separate hands-on video also appears to show a rotating ring around the camera module, with markings that could be related to ISO controls.
The X500 Pro Max is expected to feature:
- 50MP main camera
- 200MP telephoto camera
- 50MP ultra-wide camera
The main camera is reportedly a 1/1.28-inch Sony LOFIC sensor, while the telephoto could use Samsung’s 1/1.4-inch HP0 sensor.
The phone is also expected to feature a 6.85-inch 144Hz LTPO display and one of MediaTek’s upcoming Dimensity 9600 chips.
vivo has confirmed that the X500 series will launch in September, with the X500, X500 Pro, and X500 Pro Max expected in the lineup.
The final specifications remain unconfirmed, but vivo’s message is clear: the X500 Pro series wants to make slow-motion video one of its biggest camera features.
