vivo Y02s (64GB): Unboxing and first impressions

Last August 2022, vivo released vivo Y02s, an entry level smartphone that has a premium look. It is powered by a Mediatek Helio P35 processor, coupled with 3 gigs of RAM and up to 64 GB worth of storage. Its main selling point is its camera and design, let us see if it really has the vivo charm👀

Right out of the box, the smartphone has a clean and premium look. The 3+64GB variant has a price offer of ₱5,999.00 which is cheaper than its 3+32GB variant and with a hands-on experience, it can only offer its looks.

What’s in the box?

It is packed in a simple and straightforward white box with the smartphone’s name as its front. The box also has the vivo branding and inside are documentations, 10W charger, USB-C cable and the smartphone itself. There is also a dedicated SIM ejector inside.

The actual smartphone design

The vivo Y02s is available in two colors: Flourite Black and Vibrant Blue.

The phone really has the premium look with its glossy finish especially on its back. The material used for the phone is all plastic but it feels metallic to the touch. vivo has made a good job in its design department. The vivo Y02s has two circular camera modules.

The power and volume buttons are snuggly located at its right side.

Sim try and charging

The phone’s sim tray is located above the phone while the USB-C port is located below the phone along with its loudspeaker and 3.5 mm jack.

How is the display?

The vivo Y02s has a 720p 60Hz dewdrop display while Its selfie camera only has 8MP. The screen’s size is 6.51 inches and the bezels are fairly thin, making it quite enough for watching your favorite series.

Camera

The vivo Y02s has an 8MP rear camera that can also record 1080P videos. Its front camera has 5MP. The overall performance of the camera is quite good, vivo’s camera software is doing wonders even with the lackluster camera hardware.

Performance

The vivo Y02s has two ROM storage options, 32/64 GB. It only has 3GB of ram and It is powered by a Mediatek Helio P35, scoring around 110,000 in AnTuTu benchmark.

With regards to its gaming capabilities, it is barely enough as expected of its chipset.

The graphics settings in Mobile Legends can be pushed but the phone will overheat, leading to stutters and frame drops. It is recommended to play in low graphics settings and high refresh rate for optimal performance.
For Call of Duty, it is optimal to have low graphics quality and medium frame rate for optimal performance.

Battery

The vivo Y02s is equipped with a 5000 mAh Li-Po battery, suitable for daily use. It has a 10W charger which is quite slow, but barely enough.

Conclusion

The lowest version of the phone that has 3/32GB is priced 6,499 whilst the 3/64GB variant has 5,999. For its price point, the vivo Y02s is a good smartphone for a daily driver albeit with some limitation. Overall, the smartphone has a good screen and camera, while its specifications are quite lackluster for its price. Even then, its main selling point is its premium look and good camera performance, we can say that vivo has made a good job in those departments.
