Qualcomm plans to close the gap really quickly with the upcoming SD 8 Gen 3 enthusiasts raving about, is this the “Apple Silicon killer?”
Geekbench Shows Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Outperforming Apple A16 Bionic
Lately, the mobile phone industry has been highly competitive with new processor releases. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon series has been leading the way.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was a favorite for high-end smartphones, but it didn’t measure up to Apple’s A-series chips, at least not this time.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 alleged Geekbench scores showed impressive single and multi-core performance. The scores are higher than expected, with a single-core score of 1,930 and multi-core score of 6,236.
Initial rumors suggested lower scores of 1,800 for single-core and 6,500 for multi-core. These scores represent a significant improvement over the current-gen Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
There was a 30% increase in single-core and 20% in multi-core performance.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 features a 1+5+2 core configuration with one high-performance core, five middle cores, and two efficiency cores.
This configuration improves power management and is 20% more efficient than Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
TSMC’s N4P also contributes to the chip’s efficiency. We will say though don’t take the leaked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scores and rumors at face value. The chip is still in the engineering sample stage and engineers could be pushing the chip to its limits to determine its performance capabilities.
The final product’s performance may not be the same as the leaked scores. The chip may need to be slower to manage thermals so it will prevent higher draw power and throttling.
