Apart from the launch of the Xiaomi 15, there’s one more thing that caught our eye.
As both a tech nerd and a car head, I couldn’t help but look at Xiaomi’s first venture into the world of automotive, the SU7. I’ve already heard of the Xiaomi SU7 when it was first unveiled in China; I remember thinking, “Really? A car from Xiaomi?”
Seeing the car in person really changed my perception of Xiaomi. From a mobile phone manufacturer to a multifaceted company aimed at improving every aspect of an individual’s life.
The design is quite eye-catching; it’s as if Porsche and McLaren had a baby. It’s no surprise, as the SU7’s design was led by Tianyuan Li, a former BMW designer.
For some specs, the Xiaomi SU7 comes in multiple variants: standard, pro, max, and ultra models.
- Both the Standard and Pro models come with rear-wheel drive powered by a single HyperEngine V6 electric motor, delivering 220 kW of power and 400 Nm of torque. The electric motor propels the SU7 from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.28 seconds. Range is no problem with a rated range of 700 km. The Pro variant extends that even further with a range of 830 km, albeit at the cost of acceleration time.
- For even more oomph, the max model will give you 495 kW of power and 838 Nm of torque, giving you an acceleration time of 2.78 seconds and a top speed of 265 km/h.
- If that’s not enough and you want to go full Dominic Toretto, there’s also the Ultra model, which achieves 0 to 100 km/h in 1.98 seconds and a top speed of 350 km/h.
Other specs include a drag coefficient of 0.195, adaptive air suspension, an active grille shutter, and an adjustable rear spoiler. As for the car’s infotainment system, the SU7 is equipped with a 16.1-inch 3K touchscreen infotainment system powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8295 chip, running on Xiaomi’s HyperOS.
There’s a lot more that we haven’t touched on, but I’m sure you already get the idea.
All that sounds impressive; however, despite teasing us with the car itself, Xiaomi said in their flagship phone launch that there are currently no plans of bringing the SU7 to the Philippine automotive market.
But don’t lose hope yet, as the tech giant didn’t exactly give a no for an answer. Given the growing interest in the Philippines, Xiaomi might heed the call and release the SU7 in the country.
