BIR decided to have its logo changed due to factors, including the negative perception from the current logo.
The Bureau of Internal Revenue is holding a new logo contest where the best entry will celebrate the bureau’s 120th anniversary.
But why does BIR want to change its logo? One of the factors that pushed the change is the negative view toward the current logo.
BIR Commissioner Romeo D. Lumagui Jr. explained that the bureau is often seen with negativity. BIR hopes that the new logo will let people know that it has changed.
Another factor considered in the new logo is the inclusion of all Filipino taxpayers. The current logo only represents industries, such as manufacturing, telecoms, and shipping. Lumagui emphasized that everyone is a taxpayer and should be in the logo.
Three logo entries will be recognized during the contest. The winner will get ₱100,000 while the first and second runner-ups will be rewarded ₱50,000 and ₱25,000, respectively. The best logo entry will be selected by Lumagui himself alongside the BIR Management Committee.
The chosen best entry will also be submitted to the National Historical Commission for evaluation and modification in accordance with the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines.
The new logo is set for reveal in BIR’s anniversary in August.
