Unboxing
The Xiaomi 14T is presented in a white rectangular box with the Xiaomi HyperOS and Leica logos. Below the top cover is a slim white packaging that contains some of the essentials to get you started.
Next is the handset itself and a white separator under it containing the other essentials. These essentials include the card tray ejector pin, charging brick, charging cable, and some paperwork.
Inspect the box’s content in full to find a specially-designed phone case for the Xiaomi 14T. Compared to a typical jelly case, this one is black and won’t yellow. Use the phone case for extra grip and comfort.
Design
Premium! That’s one of the words that describe the Xiaomi 14T. The minimalist square camera island and back polishing are immaculate.
The sides are curved and come with a metallic aesthetic, expressing the classy and durable nature of the smartphone. The right side keeps the volume rockers and the accented power key, while the left side is smooth and clean.
The top has the microphone and IR blaster and the bottom features the card tray, another microphone, speaker grille, and USB-C port.
Meanwhile, the screen spans 6.67 inches with a resolution of 1.5K and 446 ppi. Images are crispy and bezels are so thin that viewing is immersive. Enjoy buttery smooth scrolling with 144 Hz refresh rate to boot.
If you travel a lot, the AMOLED panel supports up to 4,000 nits of peak brightness, ensuring everything is clear under bright lights. View digital content at your heart’s content for hours without straining your eyes with DC dimming and 3,840 Hz of PWM dimming. See your favorite movies and series in incredible detail and colors, thanks to Dolby Vision and HDR10+.

With such a powerful processor, expect the Xiaomi 14T to heat up. That’s why the Xiaomi IceLoop system is included on this device.
The Loop LiquidCool Technology features an annular heat pipe system that has an evaporator, a condenser, a refill chamber, and gas and liquid pipes for proper heat dissipation when the phone is under heavy load. Unlike typical vapor cooling chambers, the liquid component acts like a tiny AC that swiftly removes heat.
The Xiaomi IceLoop system works on different scenarios, including heavy gaming, taking photos, video recording, or charging the Xiaomi 14T. It works automatically to maintain excellent phone temperatures.
Optics
Powered by Leica, the Xiaomi 14T’s true power lies on its sensors and the Xiaomi AISP, an AI image processing algorithm. The Leica VARIO-SUMMILUX rear camera system is governed by these sensors:
- 50MP Leica main camera, Sony IMX906 image sensor with OIS and f/1.7 aperture
- 50MP Leica telephoto with f/1.9 aperture
- 12MP Leica ultrawide with f/2.2 aperture
Together, they can capture images at focal lengths of 15 mm, 23 mm, 50 mm, and 100 mm. If you’re curious about their typical use cases, see below:
- 15mm: Using the ultrawide lens for expansive sceneries or tight indoor spaces.
- 23mm: Using the main lens for everyday captures.
- 50mm: Using the telephoto lens for street photography and environmental portraits.
- 100m: Using the telephoto lens for distant subjects.
The single 32 MP selfie camera comes with f/2.0 aperture, enough for clear selfies and video calls.
For video recording, the maximum resolution of the rear camera system is 4K at 60 FPS while the front-facing camera can record up to 4K at 30 FPS. You can create very high-resolution video diaries and vlogs with these setups. Enable the Steady Mode and Steady Mode Pro to eliminate shakes when recording.
For accurate targeting during video recording, you can enable Autofocus Tracking. Use this to determine how the sensors analyze and predict the subject’s movements. Check it in action below.
Xiaomi 14T primarily utilizes two Leica photography styles: Leica Authentic mode and Leica Vibrant mode. Each style offers a unique combination of aesthetic, mood, and atmosphere.
The Leica Authentic mode features high contrast between light and shadow, low overall brightness, slightly reduced sharpness, cooler color temperature, and higher tonal grade. It’s designed to set a classic, film-like mood on your captures.
The Leica Vibrant mode features higher color saturation, enhanced HDR, improved dynamic range, and brighter visuals. It sets a more contemporary tone on your captures and is applicable on various subjects and lighting conditions.
If you want to express more, you use the six Leica filters on the Xiaomi 14T. These are Leica Vivid, Leica Natural, Leica Black and White Natural, Leica Black and White High Contrast, Leica Sepia, and Leica Blue.
If you’re into professional photography, dig deeper into the focal length of the Xiaomi 14T Leica Master-lens system, powered by the rear cameras. Each focal length described earlier can do more depending on the artistic theme you want to capture and express.
Want to tell stories using techniques of photojournalism? Use the 35 mm documentary lens for a slightly wider field of view and minimal distortion while maintaining sharpness of subjects.
Dreamy or ethereal images? Master the 50 mm swirly bokeh lens for distinct out-of-focus effects and creative projections.
Separating the background and highlighting a person? That’s possible with the 75 mm portrait lens; perfect for headshots and upper body portraits.
Glamour, romantic glow, or softer skin textures? Let the 90 mm soft focus lens provide a gentler touch.
Advanced AI
Since the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 Ultra sports neural cores, the Xiaomi 14T can perform on-device AI functions across the system, including the Gallery app and Google Gemini.
One notable AI tool is Circle to Search, letting you circle, highlight, scribble, and tap to find relevant information. Circle to Search will arrive on the Xiaomi 14T via over-the-air update on October 6.
Replacing Google Assistant, Google Gemini is integrated into the device and is accessible via different methods like using “Hey Google” or long pressing the Home button. You can interact with Google Gemini using text, voice, or image.
Extend an image’s detail with the AI Image Expansion. This tool uses generative AI to identify and remove objects based on the image’s original content and expands it with full naturalness.
Photobombers or annoying objects? Get rid of them with AI Magic Removal Pro. It detects specific elements on the image and highlights them for removal. You can manually select objects or even people that you want removed.
Other AI features include:
AI Message Assistant | Message rewriting using various styles with on-device model Gemini Nano. |
AI Recorder | Voice-to-text transcription, automatic summary generation, speakeridentification, and AI translation. |
AI Notes | AI summary, AI composition, AI correction and AI translation. |
AI Video Subtitles | Real-time video subtitle generation and translation. |
AI Portrait | Create personalized digital avatars from your photos, then use them to generate AI ID photos or custom portraits based on text prompts. |
Battery
Running on HyperOS, the Xiaomi 14T has an intelligent battery manager that automatically optimizes battery life based on your usage habits and charging patterns. If you want to customize this manager, go to Settings > Battery. Here are some of the options you’ll find there:
Battery Mode | Choose between Performance, Balanced, Battery Saver, and Ultra Battery Saver. |
Battery Protection | Select between Regular Charging, Optimized Charging, and Limited Charging. |
5G Battery Saver | Enable this to conserve 5G battery consumption in certain scenarios. |
Schedule On/Off | Set the time when the time will turn off and turn on. |
Low battery? No problem because the Xiaomi 14T can charge fast with 67 W HyperCharge technology. The 5,000 mAh battery is protected against surges, courtesy of the Xiaomi Surge G1 battery management chipset. Also, the smartphone has 1,600 total battery life charge cycles.
Suggestions
The Xiaomi 14T has everything you need, from performance to photography and entertainment to all-day battery life. However, we have a few suggestions that Xiaomi may want to include in the next model.
- Camera key: Powered by Leica, it’s only natural to request for a dedicated camera key.
- Expanded video stabilization support: We hope that the successor will have video stabilization for at least 2K resolution, even at only 30 FPS.
- LTPO display technology: This enables refresh rate of as low as 1 Hz, excellent in saving power.
Conclusion
The Xiaomi 14T is a compelling choice for its price range. The flagship-level performance and jaw-dropping display serve casual users and tech enthusiasts.
Its versatile camera system powered by Leica doesn’t shy away from challenging conditions. It even allows the user to explore their artistic talents via photography without awkwardness, thanks to Leica filters and advanced AI tools.
Sleek, ergonomic, and long-lasting, the Xiaomi 14T is a masterfully crafted gizmo that captures moments day or night.
