Xiaomi has officially begun teasing the upcoming Xiaomi 17 Max, confirming that the device is set to launch later this month. The early reveal offers a closer look at its design direction while highlighting key upgrades that position it as more than just a larger variant of the standard Xiaomi 17.
A “Fully Upgraded” Big-Screen Flagship
The Xiaomi 17 Max is clearly built around delivering a true large-screen flagship experience. It features a 6.9-inch flat display with notably slim bezels, aligning its overall aesthetic with the design language seen in the Xiaomi 15 series. The rear showcases a rounded camera module that blends seamlessly into the panel, giving the device a cleaner, more integrated look.
Material choices are expected to lean premium, with reports pointing to ceramic builds or even carbon fiber-inspired finishes on select variants. Color options confirmed so far include black, blue, and white.
According to Lu Weibing, partner and president of Xiaomi Group, president of its mobile phone division, and general manager of the Xiaomi brand, the 17 Max should be viewed as a “fully upgraded” version of the Xiaomi 17, not simply a larger alternative.
Display, Performance, and Hardware Upgrades
Reports suggest the device will carry a 1.5K LTPO display with a 120Hz refresh rate, reinforcing its premium positioning. The audio experience is expected to benefit from symmetrical dual speakers, while usability upgrades may include advanced water resistance and an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner.
Powering the phone could be Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage.
Battery That Breaks the Mold
One of the most notable highlights is the rumored 8000mAh battery. If confirmed, this would make it the largest battery ever used in a Xiaomi-branded smartphone. Charging capabilities are expected to remain equally aggressive, with support for 100W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging, along with PPS compatibility.
Camera System Gets a Major Lift
The camera system is also shaping up to be a major upgrade. The Xiaomi 17 Max is tipped to feature a 200-megapixel primary sensor from Samsung’s ISOCELL HP series, supported by a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom.
Leica branding is expected to remain part of the imaging setup, continuing Xiaomi’s push toward more refined photography experiences.
