Xiaomi has recently announced the end of software support for several popular smartphones under its Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO brands. This means devices like the flagship Mi 10 series and the mid-range Redmi Note 10 lineup will no longer receive updates.
Specifically, Xiaomi is ending support for the Xiaomi Mi 10S, Mi 10 Pro, Mi 10, Mi 10 Ultra, and Mi 11 Lite 5G (JP). Redmi users will also be affected, with the Redmi Note 10 Pro, Redmi Note 10, Redmi Note 10 5G, Redmi Note 10T, and Redmi Note 8 (2021) being discontinued. The POCO M3 Pro 5G is also on the list.
This decision means these devices will no longer receive security patches, bug fixes, or new features. While this is standard practice in the smartphone industry, it leaves users vulnerable to potential security risks.
Owners of affected devices have several options. They can continue using their phones as is, but they should be aware of the increased security risks. Upgrading to a newer model is another option to ensure continued software support. For tech-savvy users, custom ROMs might be a potential solution, though this carries its own risks.
