In recent years, the compact tablet segment has seen renewed interest from consumers who want a larger display without having to carry an almost laptop-like device.
Much of this interest seems to stem from the rise of mobile gaming, particularly emulation. For the longest time, the iPad Mini was the only one to offer powerful internals without having a large footprint. Now, almost every manufacturer has their own take on the segment.
The segment is now slated to welcome a new addition: the Xiaomi Pad Mini. I say “new” somewhat loosely, because it’s actually a rebranded Redmi K Pad with maybe a few minor improvements.

With the Pad Mini, the company is poised to challenge two of the segment’s most prominent players: the Apple iPad Mini and the gaming-focused REDMAGIC Astra. The company appears to be simultaneously targeting both competitors’ defining traits—the iPad Mini’s premium build and the Astra’s powerful internals.

Xiaomi Pad Mini’s Specs
Based on the China-exclusive Redmi K Pad, the Pad Mini is expected to feature an 8.8-inch IPS LCD screen with a 3K+ resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate. It’s unclear whether the Pad Mini will retain the MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ chip from the Redmi K Pad or if the company will opt for a newer, more powerful chip.
The Pad Mini is rumored to have its global debut on September 24. While the price is still a topic of debate, given the company’s long history of undercutting its competition, we can expect the Pad Mini to be priced more competitively than similar tablets of this caliber.
