Xiaomi’s self-developed smartphone chipset may power its own phones and even from sub-brands.
Xiaomi is now developing its own smartphone processors, which will reduce its reliance on MediaTek and Qualcomm.
According to a report, the brand will start producing its in-house chipsets next year and launch all smartphones powered by it in the same year. This suggests a number of things.
First, are we going to see the Xiaomi 16 with an in-house chipset? Possible but with considerable risks since this is the first time the brand will produce its own. A Snapdragon flagship is more likely.
Second, will Xiaomi test the reception using lower-end models? It’s a safer approach. It also indicates the presence of in-house chipsets to the company’s sub-brands like REDMI and POCO.
Third, will the firm release it globally or locally? Slow and steady could be viewed as a practical choice. The R&D in developing chipsets costs billions of dollars and Xiaomi doesn’t want to face a great stumble along the way. Mediocre is one thing but flawed is a totally different level, so let’s hope Xiaomi won’t make the same mistakes as others.
Apple, HUAWEI, and Samsung are three popular brands known to have proprietary chipsets. But only Samsung can manufacture its own, while Apple and HUAWEI have a history of relying on TSMC to produce their chips.
