It’s a bittersweet moment in the tech world. As the excitement builds for HyperOS 3, Xiaomi’s next major software leap based on Android 16, the company has, as expected, updated its End-of-Life (EOL) list. This means several familiar and beloved Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO devices will no longer receive official software updates, marking a natural, albeit sometimes sad, progression in the smartphone lifecycle.

While many users are eagerly anticipating the refined UI, boosted performance, and enhanced visual effects promised by HyperOS 3 (with top-tier devices like the Xiaomi 15 and 14T Pro already getting a taste of Android 16 via HyperOS 2.3), it’s time for some older companions to step out of the spotlight.

Which Phones Are Saying Goodbye?

Xiaomi’s latest additions to the EOL list, meaning no more official updates, include:

  • Xiaomi 11T Pro
  • Xiaomi 11T
  • Xiaomi 11 Lite LE
  • Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE
  • Redmi 11 Prime 4G
  • Redmi A1+
  • Redmi A1
  • POCO M5
  • POCO C50

It’s worth noting that some of these devices, particularly the more budget-friendly Redmi and POCO models, didn’t even make the jump to HyperOS 2. This move aligns with the industry’s standard practice: as technology evolves and new operating systems demand more robust hardware, older models eventually reach their limits for sustained official support.

If your trusty device is on this list, don’t panic. It won’t suddenly stop working overnight. You’ll still be able to make calls, send messages, browse the internet, and use your apps as usual. However, “End of Life” means:v

  • No More Major OS Upgrades: Your phone won’t receive HyperOS 3 or any future Android versions directly from Xiaomi.
  • Limited Security Updates: For this latest batch of EOL phones, official security patches will cease after September 2025. While some critical vulnerabilities might receive emergency fixes, ongoing protection will stop.
  • Potential for Compatibility Issues: Over time, as app developers build for newer Android versions, you might encounter performance issues, bugs, or even apps that no longer function correctly on your device.
  • Increased Security Risks: The most crucial aspect. Without regular security patches, your phone becomes more vulnerable to malware, viruses, and other cyber threats.

The Bigger Picture: HyperOS 3 and Xiaomi’s Evolving Support

This transition underscores Xiaomi’s push towards its new HyperOS ecosystem, which aims to unify its devices from smartphones to smart home gadgets. HyperOS 3, based on Android 16, is expected to officially kick off its beta testing phase later this year (Q3 2025), with a stable release possibly coinciding with the Xiaomi 16 series launch around October.

It’s also important to acknowledge Xiaomi’s evolving stance on software support. While older devices are being phased out, the company has significantly boosted its commitment to newer flagships and even some budget models. For instance, recent premium devices like the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and even value-oriented phones like the Redmi Note 14 are now promised up to 6 years of security updates and 4 major Android OS upgrades. This demonstrates a clear effort by Xiaomi to offer longer-term support, building greater customer loyalty and promoting device longevity.

For those with devices now on the EOL list, this is a clear signal to consider an upgrade if staying current with security and features is a priority. While your phone still works, the ticking clock on security updates means it’s wise to start planning your next move.
