Chinese tech giant Xiaomi has made a significant stride into the high-performance electric vehicle (EV) market with the unveiling of the SU7 Ultra prototype. This audacious offering aims to redefine the boundaries of four-door car performance, potentially dethroning both gasoline and electric competitors on the global stage.
The SU7 Ultra builds upon the success of the standard SU7, a well-received electric sports car known for its affordability and sporty design. However, the Ultra takes things to a whole new level. Featuring a staggering 1,548 horsepower – more than double the Max model – the car promises exhilarating acceleration, launching from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour (km/h) in a mere 1.97 seconds.
Features:
- Xiaomi prioritizes weight reduction with the extensive use of carbon fiber body panels. While not the lightest car in its class at nearly 1,900 kilograms (kg), this approach ensures the SU7 Ultra remains agile and responsive on the track.
- The SU7 Ultra boasts an impressive regenerative braking capability of up to 0.6G, further enhanced by physical brakes capable of delivering up to 2.36G of stopping force. This translates to a remarkable ability to decelerate from 100 km/h to a complete stop within just 25 meters.
- The car can reportedly achieve a full charge from zero in just 12 minutes with a sufficiently powerful 897V charger. Additionally, the battery is designed to maintain exceptional power output even at a 20% state of charge, ensuring sustained performance during extended track sessions.
Xiaomi showcases its commitment to performance by announcing plans to unleash the SU7 Ultra on the legendary Nürburgring track in October. The goal: to establish a new lap record for four-door electric vehicles. This ambitious target signifies Xiaomi’s intent to compete with established automakers like Porsche, which currently holds the record in this category.
Currently classified as a prototype, the SU7 Ultra’s availability and pricing remain undisclosed. However, considering the immense popularity of the standard SU7, there’s a strong possibility that this electric marvel will generate significant consumer interest. Whether it progresses beyond the prototype stage and ventures outside the Chinese market remains to be seen.
