Your lock screen is about to get an upgrade with Samsung’s Now Bar

Samsung’s Now Bar, introduced with the Galaxy S25 series and One UI 7, is shaping up to be one of the most useful lock screen features in the brand’s ecosystem. Originally designed to deliver real-time updates at a glance, Samsung is now gearing up to expand its capabilities, making it even more integrated into users’ daily routines.

More than just notifications

Right now, the Now Bar mainly works with Samsung’s native apps and a few third-party services like music players. But Samsung is actively testing deeper integrations—especially in its home market, South Korea. For example, ride-hailing app Kakao T is set to work with Now Bar, giving users real-time updates on their ride’s estimated arrival time and trip progress.

Live Sports Scores

For sports fans, Samsung is working on adding Naver Sports, a popular South Korean sports platform, to Now Bar. Once implemented, users will get live game scores from soccer, basketball, baseball, and volleyball directly on their lock screens—making it easier to keep up with matches without even unlocking the phone.

Cross-App Actions and Virtual Assistants

Another upcoming upgrade is Cross-App Actions, which will allow Samsung’s Bixby and possibly Google’s Gemini to perform multiple tasks across different apps with a single voice command. This could mean asking your phone to book a ride and automatically opening your navigation app while sending an ETA to a contact—all in one go.

Which devices will get these features?

Now Bar is currently exclusive to the Galaxy S25 series and the Galaxy A56, but Samsung has confirmed it will roll out to older Galaxy devices with the One UI 7 update. That means more users will soon get a smarter, more informative lock screen experience.

With these upgrades, Samsung is making Now Bar more than just a widget—it’s turning it into a real-time personal assistant. Expect more integrations in the coming months, as Samsung continues to fine-tune its AI-driven features to compete with Apple and Google in the real-time information race.
