4.5 million Twitter users face terror as hackers expose millions of users’ information!

Just a couple of days ago, WhatsApp faced threats as hackers managed to get access to accounts of people across 85 countries and now Twitter is not spared.

Twitter’s API once held such an easily exploitable flaw that hackers managed to grab 5.4 million user details. Now, according to reports and mentions from users in hacker forums, there are several million more points of user data floating around on the internet.

According to a study published on Monday by BleepingComputer, the 5.4 million user records that contained passwords, phone numbers, emails, and other personal information may have only been the beginning of a far wider data breach at the corporation.

The information was first stolen from Twitter through an application programming interface (API) bug, but it is now freely available online. Hackers discovered a technique to let anyone obtain a person’s Twitter ID by providing their phone number or email to the system, even if the user had disabled that option in their account, as described at the beginning of this year by HackerOne.

With all this happening, one can only wonder if there will be a social media platform which can be considered safe. Guess we will never know…
