SD 8 Gen 3 specs leak, 32-bit apps no longer supported

It’s the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen news again, now with improved info regarding the upcoming 8 Gen 3 specs and its abandonment of the 32-bit realm

A trustworthy source and developer named Kuba Wojciechowski tweeted some exciting information regarding Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor on March 24. The processor’s model number is “SM8650,” and Wojciechowski claims that its internal code name is “Lanai” or “Pineapple.”

The 2+3+2+1 architecture of this third-generation Snapdragon processor is distinctive, though specific information regarding clock frequencies is still unknown. As per IT Home, the core configuration is as follows:

  • 2 Arm “silver” cores named “Hayes” (A5xx)
  • 3 “gold” Arm cores with the name “Hunter” (A7xx)
  • 2 Arm “titanium” cores named “Hunter” (A7xx)
  • 1 Arm “gold+” core named “Hunter ELP” (Xn)

Due to the chipset’s lack of associated CPU cores, the processor will not support 32-bit Android apps and games, forcing developers to upgrade their programs to the 64-bit architecture.

Furthermore, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is also equipped with an Adreno 750 GPU (Adreno Gen 7.9.0) clocked at 770MHz, though the official flagship model’s clock frequency could potentially be higher.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is mass-produced using either Samsung’s 3nm process or TSMC’s improved 4nm process, and it is compatible with Android 14 and Linux Kernel 6.1.
