GCash biometric feature missing in GCash

After the supposed maintenance, the company has decided to remove the GCash biometric feature. This means that users can now log in to GCash only through an OTP and a user MPIN. The question is, is this the right solution?

The company also issued a follow-up statement with regards to the new developments :

“We wish to further assure the affected customers that their funds remain safe and secure. We would also like to remind customers never to share their OTP and MPIN.”

While OTPs and photo ID verification have not been breached, the GCash biometric feature, such as live selfies, has become increasingly popular in the fight against fraud and identity theft. Some argue that biometrics are more secure than traditional passwords and PINs, as they are harder to fake or steal.

However, there are concerns that biometric verification could put users at risk of identity theft for surveillance or tracking purposes. To address these concerns, some argue that users should have the option to opt out of such measures. Therefore, the company has removed the biometric feature from its security measures to protect user privacy and prevent potential security breaches.

All we can hope for, is that the company ensures the security of people’s funds and maintain trust.
