Maya and LRMC unveil convenient and seamless end-to-end QR ticketing system for LRT-1 commuters

No. 1 digital banking app Maya and LRT-1 private operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) launched a groundbreaking milestone in the modernization of
railway transportation in the Philippines with the official launch of LRT-1 QR Ticketing system.
Commuters can now conveniently purchase their single journey LRT-1 QR ticket using the
Maya app and scan the generated QR ticket at the dedicated “Fast Lane” turnstiles located at all
LRT-1 Stations- making the process quick, seamless, and hassle-free.

“The LRT-1 QR Ticketing project marks a significant milestone in public transportation, where
everyone can enjoy faster, safer, and more convenient digital transactions. This end-to-end
digitalization represents a turning point in modernizing our transportation system and promoting
digital payments on a wider scale,” said Manuel V. Pangilinan, Chairman of the Metro Pacific
Investments Corporation (MPIC), Maya, and LRMC.

“Building around our company core values of innovation and customer focus, LRMC is
pioneering this technology for the railway sector in partnership with Maya and AFPI. We take
pride in spearheading this effort as a crucial first step towards accelerating digitalization in
public transport. Through this initiative, we are empowering our LRT-1 passengers with more
options so that they can commute more conveniently. We remain steadfast in our commitment
to improve the commuter experience and make rail an attractive, affordable, and sustainable
transport solution,” said Juan F. Alfonso, President and CEO of LRMC.

“We’re proud to introduce this pioneering end-to-end digital ticketing solution for our
transportation sector, in partnership with LRMC. This integration offers a fast, seamless, and hassle-free solution to the commuting public. On top of promoting digital transactions, this contactless approach fosters public health and safety — crucial in our present times,” said Shailesh Baidwan, Maya Group President and Maya Bank Co-Founder.

Commuters can easily purchase LRT-1 QR tickets via the Maya app. QR tickets generated are
valid for 24 hours from the date of purchase and can be used at all LRT-1 stations from
Baclaran to Monumento, as well as the north line extension, which includes Balintawak and
Roosevelt stations along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA).

Here is a simple step-by-step guide:

  1. Open your Maya app and navigate to the Services section.
  2. Select the LRT-1 tile under the Lifestyle category.
  3. Choose your desired route (Northbound or Southbound) and set both the origin and
    destination.
  4. Click on Pay Now. Your QR ticket will be instantly generated.
  5. Conveniently scan your QR ticket using the turnstile QR scanners at LRT-1 stations.

To encourage commuters, Maya is offering one free LRT-1 ride per month per customer in the
form of cashback vouchers. Passengers simply need to purchase their QR tickets within the
Maya app to enjoy this exclusive benefit. Promo 1 runs until August 31, 2023.

LRT-1 QR Tickets powered by Beep may also be purchased through LRMC’s ikotMNL app, a
first-of-its-kind in the Philippine railway industry that empowers commuters with better access to
train information. Through Maya Business, Maya also enables the ikotMNL to accept digital
payments from Maya, other e-wallets, banks, credit, debit, prepaid card, and soon, QR PH.

Maya strongly supports the initiatives of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the
Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in promoting the use of contactless payments in public
transportation. Maya has equipped Metro Manila, Cebu, and Baguio taxi operators with
contactless payment solutions, facilitated the first digital bus ticketing system with the Araneta
Bus Port, and handles payment processing for major Transportation Network Vehicle Service
providers.

LRMC is a joint venture company of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation and Sumitomo
