Netflix Shakes Up Subscription Tiers: Say Goodbye to Basic Plan in Canada

Last year, Netflix shook things up by introducing a new Netflix basic subscription plan supported by ads. It offered a cheaper alternative to their other levels but came with ad breaks. However, it seems like Netflix is continuing to experiment with its subscription options.

In Canada, they have made a change by removing the second-cheapest tier from their lineup, right after introducing the ad-supported one. Now, most countries have four different subscription tiers on Netflix: basic with ads, basic, standard, and premium. Each tier comes with another price tag and offers varying benefits, such as the number of devices that can use the platform simultaneously and the streaming quality. As expected, the premium tier, which is the most expensive, allows the most devices and offers the highest streaming quality.

However, according to reports from The Winnipeg Free Press, in Canada, Netflix has decided to discontinue the second-cheapest tier. So if you’re in Canada, you can now choose between Netflix basic subscription plan with ads, standard, and premium. The monthly prices for these tiers will remain the same for now.

Netflix has not confirmed whether other countries will also see changes in their subscription offerings or when it might happen. Given how much revenue they are generating from ads, it’s likely that we’ll see more updates in the near future.

So, if you’re in Canada, take note of these changes in Netflix’s subscription options. And for those in other countries, watch for any potential updates. Netflix constantly evolves and tries new things to enhance our streaming experience.
