Twitter vs. Threads: What’s the difference?

Threads, a direct competitor to Twitter, is the newest member of Meta’s family of applications and was only released last weel. Despite Elon Musk’s microblogging platform threatening legal action as a result, Threads attracted over 10 million users in only one day

Both apps are the same, so why even bother trying the Threads app? Well, there are key differences, such as:

  • Availability: Twitter is available on the web and as a mobile app, while Threads is only available as a mobile app.
  • Account sync: Twitter can be logged into with a username, email address, or phone number, while Threads can only be logged into with an Instagram account.
  • Price and verification: Twitter Blue costs $7.99/month and includes a verification badge, no ads, and an increased character limit. Threads verification is transferred from Instagram and costs the same as Twitter Blue.
  • Multimedia posts: Both Twitter and Threads allow users to post images, videos, and website links. Threads allows users to post up to 10 images or videos in a single post, while Twitter only allows 4.
  • Text limit & feed curation: Twitter has a character limit of 280 characters, while Threads has a limit of 500 characters. Twitter also has two different feed options: a curated feed and a chronological feed. Threads only has a chronological feed.

Apart from this, Threads is also an ad-free experience, which is most likely to change in the near future. Also, if you want to delete your Threads account, you also need to delete your Instagram account but it will be changed soon so don’t worry.

Though, Twitter and Threads seem same on paper they are a different experience altogether for a user. However, it’s also very evident that Threads is a work in progress.
