TECNO POVA 5 Unboxing and First Impressions – A gamer’s style, envisioned

TECNO is making waves in the Philippines with its impressive lineup of budget-friendly smartphones. The company has been releasing one banger after another, each one offering a near-perfect balance of specs to price ratio. TECNO’s competitors should start to fumble in their efforts to keep up.

Releasing a string of budget-friendly smartphones that have been well-received by the market, the POVA 5, should be sure to up the ante even further.

Well, let’s hop on towards the phone’s unboxing! But before that, here is its specs preview:

Unboxing (Or untriangle-ing? Unpyramiding?)

Now, at first glance, the TECNO POVA 5 Free Fire Special Edition’s packaging box is vastly different compared to last year’s POVA 4. It features a triangle like packaging with various designs and inserts from the brand itself. It is quite charming to say the least, but are the contents worth buying for or all the budget is spent making the packaging as unique as possible?

The packing box (or triangle) includes a character illustration(Kelly) from the video game Free Fire by Garena as well as a 2D rendering of the POVA 5, which is fantastic since it gives you a general idea of what to anticipate when you open the package.

Here is a quick unboxing video:

With the unboxing out of the way…

Well, what about its Mecha inspired design?

The POVA 5 Free Fire Edition has a gorgeous Mecha-inspired design and some stripes on its rear. With a tech-infused, tough design that is really rather lovely, TECNO said that this would help users make a statement. We are confident that it does so thanks to its distinctive back. Even with all of this design, the back is still plastic, yet it still works well since the design is excellent for a low-cost phone.

The flat sides and curved corners are lined with a thick silver metallic accent that complements the Mecha-inspired back panel.

On the left side of the phone, there is a tray for the Dual nanoSIM Card and Dedicated microSD Card slots. The volume rocker and power button with a fingerprint scanner are both located on the right side.

The top panel of the phone is relatively bare, with only two holes for one of the loudspeakers. The rear panel of the phone houses the 3.5mm combo jack, the microphone pinhole, the USB Type C charging port, and a row of holes for the other loudspeaker.

Yes, it has a normal port arrangement, but its beauty will be its primary selling point. Players will undoubtedly drool over such stunning design, which was clearly created with gamers in mind.

An improved display from last year

The display on the TECNO POVA 5 Free Fire Special Edition is stunning and significantly improves the gaming experience. The screen’s spacious 6.78-inch size offers enough space for multitasking, gaming, and immersive video consumption. It has an astonishing 120Hz refresh rate, which is a true treat on a cheap phone. The FHD+ (1080 x 2460 pixels) resolution also produces bright pictures and interactions with the device seem exceptionally quick and snappy because to the high refresh rate, which guarantees fluid and seamless on-screen transitions.

When compared to the TECNO POVA 4, which only offers a 90hz refresh rate and 720 x 1600 pixels, this is a respectable boost.

The phone is typically a decent choice for casual gamers; it is undoubtedly eye-catching as well as has a display and appropriate design for gamers and non-gamers. At first glance though, it hasn’t improved much compared to its previous iteration, just some tweaks with its storage, display, and design. Let’s discuss this phone in more detail in our review.
