iPhone 12 has too much electromagnetic radiation says French watchdog

France just paused iPhone 12 sales because its SAR is too high. Apple disputes the claim.

Everything’s happy and dandy in the iOS world after the iPhone 15 series was announced, but it got ruined when a watchdog in France made a claim. France’s National Frequency Agency (ANFR) claimed that the specific absorption rate or SAR of the iPhone 12 has exceeded the standards.

According to the Federal Communications Commission, SAR is a measure to let you know your exposure to radio frequency from an object, like a cellphone.

So, what’s the SAR of iPhone 12? The claim indicated an exceeding limit of over 40% at 5.74 watts per kilogram. European regulators only permit no more than four watts per kilogram.

According to Reuters, Apple said in a statement that iPhone 12 was certified by multiple international bodies for compliance with SAR standards. The tech giant added that several Apple and third-party labs proved the device’s compliance. Thus, it is contesting the claim.

iPhone 12 was launched back in 2020 and the claim was released during the iPhone 15 unveil event. If you’re worried about the SAR of your device, you can find the details on the FCC website by entering the phone’s FCC ID number found on the phone’s case or phone’s settings. However, the details posted online are limited to models produced and marketed within the past one to two years.
