Overheating iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max? Blame titanium and internal design

Expert reveals the cause of the overheating issue on the iPhone 15 Pro models.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max is possibly the most powerful smartphone in the market today across all metrics. However, its incredible power has a downside predicted ever since the handset was first announced. With A17 Pro, how would the iPhone disperse the intense heat during heavy use?

Now that the iPhone 15 Pro Max has been tested by many people, it’s no surprise that the whining about its overheating issue came out. But the culprit isn’t the fastest mobile chipset to date.

Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that the iPhone 15 Pro models are not overheating because of the A17 Pro chipset. They revealed the two factors that contributed to the issue.

Kuo explained that Apple opted for weight so the handsets are lighter. This design choice left not much room for dissipating heat effectively.

The other cause is titanium. While the metal leveled up the durability of the iPhone 15 Pro models, it lacks thermal conductivity. Unlike aluminum, titanium has low thermal conductivity that makes it preferred for insulation. Aluminum does the opposite and transfers heat, making it a good metal for heat sinks and cookware.

The narrow design and titanium/aluminum hybrid in both iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are too problematic. They are powered by the top mobile processor but cannot breathe in a very tight space.

On the other hand, both the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have a lesser chipset and aluminum for maximum cooling. Was this contrast an oversight?

Anyway, Apple can simply roll out a patch to clock down or lower the power draw of the A17 Pro to reduce heat. But this is only a workaround and won’t really prevent the issue when playing AAA titles at ultra.

So, it’ll be up to you to lower the graphics setting to help your iPhone 15 Pro breathe.
