Google Pixel 8 Pro easily nailed drop and scratch tests

An enthusiast didn’t wait long to test out how tough Google Pixel 8 Pro is.

YouTuber PBKreviews prepared two endurance tests for the Pixel 8 Pro. The first was a drop test and it started at waist high. The phone fell with the screen first on the concrete.

Google Pixel 8 Pro’s display is protected by Corning Gorilla Victus 2 that can survive a drop of up to a meter on concrete-like surfaces.

After the smartphone was dropped, the screen didn’t break and it remained operational. But there were some dents on the side and scrapes on the screen.

The next part of the test was head high. It took the impact but the screen didn’t break or lose its responsiveness. The rest of the device had no obvious damage as well.

The third part was waist high with the Pixel 8 Pro dropped facing its back. Again, the smartphone survived with the screen and back intact.

The final part was waist high with the phone dropped sideways. The impact dented the side that hit the concrete, which in turn damaged the corner part of the screen. The rest was found to be functional and still in good condition.

The other test was about scratch resistance. So, the YouTuber placed the Pixel 8 Pro in a bag full of sand and gravel.

After the “sand marination,” only a few very small scratch marks were observed on the screen and where the camera module is, but nothing more were identified elsewhere. The camera lenses survived the scratch test with flying colors.

The Google Pixel 8 Pro may not be the best flagship of 2023 but its toughness against scratches and drops is excellent. This is perhaps a green flag for those who want to upgrade to this smartphone.

Google Pixel 8 Pro has a starting price of $999 or ₱56,796.65.
