Vision Pro demand tumbles, Apple cutting back production

After 15 minutes of fame, the interest and demand in the Apple Vision Pro dwindles. The headset is collecting dust in some stores.

The Apple Vision Pro is an innovative achievement in the mixed-reality (MR) industry, thanks to its top-tier specs and software. But it’s just gathering dust and whatnot in stores now.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, his latest survey showed that Apple cut its shipment of the Vision Pro to 400,000 and 450,000 units, compared to the market consensus of at least 700,000.

The company also reduced the orders in non-US markets before the device’s official launch. That alone suggested the sharp decline in demand in the US. Thus, Apple has taken a conservative plan outside the US.

When the Vision Pro debuted about two months prior, crowds were drawn in and the device was sold out almost instantly. But the interest died so quickly and it left the MR device in the dust.

Based on a report, the pre-order in January led to 180,000 units sold. This was followed by a decline in demand for demos and it kept getting worse up to the point that those who scheduled for appointments to try the Vision Pro don’t show up.

Some Apple stores are only selling two units a week, three months after the hype. So, what’s the problem?

The core issue is inconvenience with many people expressing that they rarely use the device in public. Some also reported discomfort when wearing the Vision Pro, while others had difficulty in finding apps on the device’s app store.

Apple is allegedly reviewing its roadmap, which means there may not be a 2025 Vision Pro model.

How about you? Would you wear the Vision Pro in public?
