Global Smartphone shipments in Q1 of 2022

The Global smartphone shipments have dropped by 11% in the first quarter of 2022. It is largely due to the spikes in covid cases when the Omicron variant showed up and the war between Russia and Ukraine. It affected the rest of the world.

According to the Canalys report the market was held back by the ‘unsettled business environment’ in the first quarter of 2022, the spikes of COVID cases played a huge role into what happened to the market. The war between Russia and Ukraine have cause a resurgent lockdown policy on inflation around the world.

The upside is the component shortage situation is expected to improve sooner. The market share for the top five smartphone vendors are Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, OPPO, and Vivo. Samsung tops the list by 24% share and Apple is at second with 18%.

Samsung remains the top smartphone globally and Apple’s share is also likely to grow after the release of the new flagship iPhone. Xiaomi might maintain its #3 position globally but the top brand in India. OPPO and Vivo maintained their positions of share as well.
