Samsung to Make Their First Midrange Foldable

Most foldable phones belong in the premium flagship territory (think Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, Oppo Find N) where they could cost anywhere from PHP50,000 to PHP60,000. For the average phone user, this price tag is not pretty to look at.

However, Samsung is making a more affordable version of a foldable. A Twitter leaker by the name of @chunvn8888 has released some information about the newest foldable. It will be part of the Galaxy A series. As to when the device will be released, it’s nowhere near this year.

Samsung Chief of Mobile Division Roh Tae-Moon said the project will start sometime in 2024, so we’re not going to see any mid-range mobile devices soon. The Galaxy Z Fold will have depreciated enough in value by 2024 that a midrange foldable in 2024 might have the same value as a premium foldable in 2022.

There’s no news yet on what the Galaxy A foldable might look like, but based on Samsung’s previous designs, it could either look like the Galaxy Z Foldable or the Galaxy Flip. The latter is much cheaper to make, so there’s a high chance we’re going to expect a clamshell design on the new foldable.

This is just the newest tech Samsung is offering to the public. Samsung has already conceptualized foldable displays since 2011, a decade before they launched the first-ever foldable phone. They’re also planning to make a new type of chip vastly different from the Exynos SoCs which will be powering the new Galaxy releases.
