Angkas, a renowned motorcycle taxi service, has recently declared its intent to challenge Grab in the realm of car services with the introduction of “Angcars.”
During the “2024 and Beyond townhall event,” CEO George Royeca unveiled the company’s ambitious plans, positioning Angcars as a viable alternative to other 4-wheel ride-hailing services like Grab and JoyRide SuperTaxi.
The name “Angcars” itself is a clever play on words, as Royeca humorously discussed during the event. The new ride-hailing service is expected to debut in late 2024, although specific details remain undisclosed at this point. Royeca did, however, reveal that Angcars will offer two versions of the service: Angcars Economy for standard ride-hailing and Angcars Plus for customers seeking 4 or 6-seater options.
Beyond the expansion into car services, Angkas is diversifying its offerings by introducing additional services. This includes health care services providing in-home medical facilities, such as blood tests, and Padala, a courier service catering to the needs of Filipino business owners.
In addition to these innovations, Angkas is actively working on its AngKash service. Designed to provide affordable loans to its riders, AngKash aims to facilitate a quicker and more accessible process for acquiring or upgrading their motorcycle units.
These 2024 initiatives showcase Angkas’ commitment to enhancing its services, particularly in the car TNVS segment. This move is especially significant given the increased competition and higher booking fares experienced by customers since the exit of Uber from the country. As Angkas continues to evolve, these developments signal a promising future for both the company and the users it serves.
