Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ limit password sharing, deadline announced

New set of streaming platforms cracking down on password sharing starting March 14.

Beware subscribers of Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ as these providers are no longer turning a blind eye to password sharing. They are now cracking down to limit such sharing within the household.

According to a report, Hulu subscribers received an email that starting March 14, sharing of accounts outside their households would be limited. Disney+ and ESPN+ terms of agreement on their sites have been updated and now read:

“You agree not to impersonate or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity, including using another person’s username, password, or other account information, or another person’s name or likeness, or provide false details for a parent or guardian.”

Another report revealed that March 14 is also the deadline for Disney+ and the use of accounts may be analyzed to determine if they are compliant to the new agreement. If determined non-compliant, an account may be terminated or get limited access.

The mechanics on limited password sharing for Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ aren’t completely revealed yet. But users should expect something similar to what Netflix did, where the service gets blocked for devices not connecting within the same household for a specific period.

This is the latest move after Netflix, which ended its password sharing last year. If you don’t know, password sharing has a negative effect across streaming services as it could cost the industry as much as $25 billion annually.
