E3 no more, it’s officially canceled for good

The biggest gaming event of the year drops its curtain. E3 finally says goodbye to all gamers and fans worldwide.

An era in the gaming industry has come to an end, and many are probably saddened about this. After four years of missing due to COVID-19, one of the world’s most anticipated yearly gaming events has shut down.

The E3 or Electronic Entertainment Expo has been canceled for 2024 and beyond. According to a report, the Entertainment Software Association and show promoter ReedPop announced that the planned event for June failed to get the needed interest. If that schedule persisted, it would have been E3’s first in-person event since 2019.

However, the cancellation shouldn’t surprise anyone because three major console brands confirmed that they won’t be attending. Even big publishers like Ubisoft and Sega have abandoned the show. Meaning, nothing’s big on the presenter’s list and that will likely disappoint attendees.

One key factor that led to the E3 cancellation is the new battlefield for game publishers. Before, in-person events were the main route for promoting upcoming games and showcase previews.

Now, companies can easily reach almost anyone on the globe by using streaming platforms. The booming power of the internet has allowed publishers to make announcements in a flash, and the engagement from that may easily be used to fuel events. A publisher, big or small, may host an event just from that.

To cut costs further, the publisher may do the event online and it may actually serve better because more people can attend, thanks to the high-speed internet of today.

E3 began in 1995 and was considered the biggest and most prestigious gaming expo each year. Its last iteration was in 2021, an online event with free full access to everyone.
