The AI-powered Windows OS is rumoredly powered by the brand-new Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor.
It looks like Microsoft and Qualcomm are working together to bring the next version of Windows this year. Packed with AI features, the rumored Windows 12 will require chipsets with advanced AI capabilities and the Snapdragon series may be the answer.
According to a report, the first likely recipients of the next Windows are Snapdragon X Elite PCs, computers with Qualcomm’s custom ARM 64 chip.
“We’re tracking to the launch of products with this chipset tied with the next version of Microsoft Windows that has a lot of the Windows AI capabilities. We’re still maintaining the same date, which is driven by Windows, which is mid-2024, getting ready for back-to-school,” said Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon.
Windows 12 wasn’t mentioned literally but during an earnings call, Amon mentioned that the Snapdragon X Elite is scheduled for rollout in mid-2024, which means summer.
Snapdragon X Elite was announced during the Snapdragon Summit last year in Hawaii. This chipset is created via a 4-nm process with 12-core Oryon cores to meet heavy demands. Some of its features include:
- Built for AI: Qualcomm AI Engine plus Qualcomm Hexagon NPU for transformative experiences in creativity, productivity, and security.
- Smarter User Experiences: Brings mobile experiences to PC, such as Wi-Fi 7 and 5G.
- Game-charging Performance: Dual-core boost for very fast responsiveness and low-power consumption for several days of use on a single charge.
Specs rundown:
- 64-bit 12-core CPU with up to 3.8GHz clock speed, up to 4.3GHz boosted speed
- Adreno GPU with DirectX 12 support
- LPDDR5x memory support and up to 64GB capacity support
- Storage support for SD 3.0 and UFS 4.0
