This time, the unannounced Galaxy Z Flip 5 is making news once more owing to a real live shot that appears to have captured the next foldable flip phone in the wild rather than leaked specifications or press renderings
The photo embedded in the tweet below (via @Tech_Reve) shows what appears to be the Galaxy Z Flip 5 wrapped in a protective case. The latter has strange markings and doesn’t seem to fit the phone all that well, seeing how it sags around the camera cutouts.
The alleged Galaxy Z Flip 5 captured in this photo sits next to a BMW keyfob, which doesn’t add or take away credibility, but nevertheless seems appropriate given Samsung’s recent dealings with the Bavarian carmaker.
As for the details revealed by the photo, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 appears to have a side-mounted fingerprint sensor embedded in the side key, a flat hinge, and the folder-shaped cover screen we’ve all seen in renders before. The cover screen shows a circular Always-On Display clock.
How, when and where?
Samsung will hold its upcoming Unpacked event in South Korea. According to reports, the company will make the phone announcement on July 27 at COEX in the upscale Gangnam neighborhood. Samsung is indeed altering its timetable and hosting the following Unpacked sooner than normal.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 won’t be alone on stage. It should be accompanied by the Galaxy Z Fold 5, the Galaxy Tab S9 series, and the Galaxy Watch 6 wearables. Samsung may or may not also unveil its first mixed-reality headset to compete with Apple’s.
But back to the Galaxy Z Flip 5, the next-gen model represents a significant leap in design for the foldable flip phone series, as it is the first to increase the size of the cover screen to this extent.
