In a recent financial call, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed that an announcement regarding the successor to the wildly successful Switch console is coming. This announcement is slated for within the current fiscal year, ending on March 31, 2025.
Furukawa’s statement aligns with previous rumors suggesting a reveal window in Q1 2025. It’s important to note, however, that “announcement” and “release” are distinct. While the console might be unveiled before April 2025, an actual release could follow later.
For those looking for immediate news on upcoming Switch titles, Nintendo also announced a Direct presentation for June. This presentation will focus solely on Switch games for the latter half of 2024 and won’t include details about the next console.
Additional notes:
- The original Switch (2017) utilized the Nvidia Tegra X1 chip, fostering its unique hybrid design for portable and home console use.
- The Switch’s success is undeniable, with over 141 million units sold worldwide, ranking it as the third best-selling console ever.
- Currently, three Switch models exist: standard, Lite, and OLED.
