In a significant development, Chinese tech giant Huawei has signed a multi-year patent cross-licensing agreement with smartphone maker vivo. This deal follows a similar agreement signed with Nokia last month.
This agreement focuses primarily on 5G technology. By paying royalties, vivo gains access to certain 5G patents held by Huawei, facilitating its operations in countries where these patents are relevant.
Both companies view this agreement as mutually beneficial, highlighting “mutual respect for the value of each other’s patents.” Furthermore, they expressed commitment to future collaboration and joint research initiatives aimed at industry standardization and innovation.
This marks the second major patent agreement for Huawei in recent days, following a similar deal with Amazon regarding WiFi and video playback technologies.
