Infinix new tech: Air charging devices and extreme-temp battery at -40°C

Infinix addresses two major issues of batteries for mobile and smart devices, with a possible demo at CES 2024.

Wireless is an innovation mainly because of convenience; no more attaching wires to their phones. However, wireless charging pods limit users as lifting their smartphones will stop the charging.

Infinix is changing the battery landscape for mobile devices with two new cutting-edge technologies. The company recently unveiled the AirCharge and Extreme-Temp Battery, solutions to some common challenges of batteries.

Air Charging Your Phone

Infinix’s AirCharge technology works like wireless charging, albeit with a fresh take on how it’s done. Instead of relying on the direct contact between a device and the charging pod, the two will maintain the connection several centimeters away.

Currently, this tech supports a distance of up to 20 centimeters. It isn’t a lot but you can now use your smartphone as normal, detached from a wire or pod while charging. Plus, the charging works even if the transmitting and receiving coils are tilted up to an angle of 60 degrees.

Infinix AirCharge only operates at a low frequency of below 6.78Mhz to reliably deliver up to 7.5w of wireless charging, as per report.

Extreme-Temp Battery Below Freezing

Batteries for mobile and smart devices prefer cool temperatures but freezing temps are a no-no.

Infinix’s solution for this is the Extreme-Temp Battery. This new technology lets a battery survive extreme temperatures of as low as minus 40 degrees Celsius. To compare, water freezes at zero degrees and while the south pole’s winter has a mean freezing temperature of minus 60.

That said, lithium-ion batteries won’t freeze at such a temperature and render them inactive or incapable of charging or discharging. It’s a preferred improvement in countries with extreme temperatures during colder months.

When will we see these? The sneak peek will likely be during the CES next year. We may even see which flagship Infinix phones will be getting those upgrades. So, stay tuned!
