Here’s what we know about the uncertain future of POCO X6 series owners.
The POCO X6 and POCO X6 Pro are priced aggressively and come with impressive performance, design, and battery. Cameras are decent and can meet the demands of your daily uploads.
With an amazing package for an affordable price, will this POCO series cause distress or get redemption?
In this article, we’ll try to be logical and reasonable about whether or not the POCO X6 series follow the footsteps of the X3 and some other POCO devices.
What are Bootloops and Deadboots?
A bootloop refers to any device (phone, computer, etc.) that won’t proceed to the home screen and is stuck in the booting phase. A deadboot refers to any device that won’t restart or even turn off after being commanded to. These phenomena can occur due to multiple reasons, ranging from software to hardware.
One notable cause of bootloop is when the device is interrupted during installation, whether from new updates or clean install. Remember that warning from your Windows PC not to turn the machine off during the update?
The device is prone to corruption during installation and when interrupted, the chances of it not booting up correctly are so high. So, no matter how bored you are waiting, leave the device to finish it. Also, update your device via stable Wi-Fi connectivity.
For a deadboot, one strong link is hardware failure. It’s like the device just died without obvious reasons. When any hardware parts fail, no software fixes can do the job. You have to take the device to a technician.
If the motherboard fails, the situation becomes grave because the easiest solution is to buy a new one. This is because repairing a MOBO takes lots of skill and experience, so looking for the right person is difficult.
Why is POCO Being Associated with These Issues?
POCO was seen with great potential but the brand suffered a hurdle a few years back. POCO X3, X3 Pro, and M3 were trapped into the cloud of the deadboot issue.
Many users experienced random shutdowns, random restarts, and the worse, permanent shutdown. Motherboard failure was the most associated cause of this and it placed a stigma on the brand and the series.
Even POCO F5 and F5 Pro didn’t escape the merciless deadboot issue. The symptoms are the same where the device glitches and shuts down and users can’t reach the home screen after a reboot. Others reported that their devices won’t turn on anymore.
To be fair, bootloops and deadboots are not exclusive to POCO or any other brand. These are just flaws in the technology we have and us being humans.
Heck, we haven’t even created the first perfect but totally-human-made product on the planet. So, don’t expect to get a perfect phone.
Any device, electronic or not, is prone to any defect and is at risk of failure. The only thing that makes it so painful is the lost data and the amount of money spent on it, which is why it matters more than a defective cheap ballpen.
A Throwback – Exploding Note
It’s almost a decade since the exploding note, and the brand moved on and improved later versions until the series was ultimately canceled.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7, initially released in August 2016, was recalled and discontinued due to major design flaws. The device was known for spontaneous combustion because of the flawed battery design.
When it happened, many feared the Galaxy Note lineup and they have the right to be scared. However, Samsung stepped up and guaranteed that it will not happen again and the brand delivered that promise.
Perhaps POCO users simply want a guarantee from the brand that the issue is gone for good. Let’s hope the brand will release a statement that the POCO X6 5G and X6 Pro 5G are safe.
Will the POCO X6 Series Fail Us?
Honestly, we can’t tell. At the end of the day, motherboards and other hardware components are just objects prone to damage, heat, and the likes.
If there’s anything, POCO X6 Pro is recognized as a rebranded Redmi K70E. It means that it’s likely using the same motherboard as the Redmi K70E, except for the casing to give it a POCO identity. No Redmi K70E is confirmed with bootloops or deadboots as of this writing.
Yours truly has just become an owner of the POCO X6 Pro 5G (12+512GB) and also fears of the uncertain future. The only thing that comes to mind is wait and take good care of this phone so it will last long. Time will tell.
Entry-level, mid-range, or flagship, if you always push your device to its limits every day, expect it to wear and tear quickly. You’re allowed to get the maximum performance from that hard-earned smartphone but like the other things you own, you’re also responsible for what may happen to it.
Thus, use and abuse your smartphone wisely.
