Spotify hides the lyrics of your favorite songs behind a paywall.
Spotify wants more people to subscribe for music tripping, but the plan isn’t cheerful, or even thoughtful, as a feature has been locked away from free users. Do you recall that the song currently playing should be showing the lyrics? Now, it doesn’t
This is because Spotify decided to lock it away to “attract” free users to subscribe and regain access to lyrics. If you don’t do it, you get the pop-up: “Enjoy lyrics on Spotify Premium.” It will give you a link to sign up for the premium service. Naturally, lots of Spotify users didn’t like the new scheme, while Spotify suggested that it is only a test.
Reading lyrics is just the latest feature that Spotify decided to lock away behind the paywall. Today, free Spotify users can no longer enjoy the two most basic things when listening to music. No more repeating of the current song and no more reading of lyrics unless you’re willing to cash out. Well, in some territories like here in the Philippines, you can enjoy the premium experience for as low as ₱7 a day, but that only works on one account on mobile. Check out the other plans below.
Anyway, there are many more online music services you can try, such as SoundCloud, YouTube Music, and Pandora. Let’s hope Spotify will change its mind and bring the lyrics out of the paywall soon.
