MSI Claw Handheld Gaming PC unveiled – A worthy Steam Deck competitor?

MSI’s revelation of the highly anticipated Claw handheld gaming PC at CES 2024 has ignited a fervor among gaming aficionados. Following recent leaks, the device is now officially unveiled, stepping into a market dominated by popular competitors like the Steam Deck. Setting itself apart, the Claw opts for an Intel Meteor Lake processor, a noteworthy departure from the prevalent use of AMD CPUs in devices such as the Steam Deck, Asus ROG Ally, and Lenovo Legion Go.

The standout feature of the MSI Claw is its vibrant 7-inch FHD IPS display, boasting an impressive 120Hz refresh rate—a match for the Asus ROG Ally’s screen size. What truly distinguishes the Claw is its distinctive color variant and the inclusion of blue A, B, X, and Y buttons, adding a unique flair to its design.

Backed by 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and Intel Arc integrated graphics, the Claw ensures robust performance, albeit with a slightly heavier build at 675 grams compared to its counterparts. Storage options are ample, providing up to 1TB of SSD capacity along with a MicroSD card slot for expanded storage.

MSI takes pride in the Claw’s exceptional battery life, powered by a 53Whr battery. The company claims an impressive two hours of playtime under full workload conditions, a crucial feature for gamers on the move.

The introduction of the MSI Claw signifies a growing interest in handheld gaming PCs, a trend that gained momentum with Valve’s Steam Deck release. MSI’s foray with the Claw underscores the dynamic landscape of portable gaming, emphasizing innovation and performance as pivotal factors in capturing consumers in this competitive field.

Anticipated to hit the market in the first half of 2024, the MSI Claw adds another compelling option for handheld gaming enthusiasts. As the market expands, it will be intriguing to observe how MSI’s Claw competes against established players and whether its unique features provide a competitive edge.
