Samsung readies 3nm Exynos chipset, 2nm chip is in the works

Samsung recently announced plans to mass produce its first 3nm Exynos chipset utilizing their Gate-All-Around (GAA) design. While the specific chip remains unconfirmed, speculation points towards either the Exynos 2500 for the upcoming Galaxy S25 or the Exynos W1000 for the Galaxy Watch7.

Looking ahead, Samsung has reportedly begun development on a 2nm chip codenamed “Thetis,” likely the Exynos 2600. Mass production is expected in the latter half of 2025, potentially supplying the Galaxy S26.

While some reports suggest Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 might utilize a 4nm node, potentially lagging behind Samsung’s 3nm Exynos 2500, others suggest it could leverage TSMC’s newer 3nm (N3E) node. Apple’s reported acquisition of a significant portion of TSMC’s 3nm capacity in 2023 adds another layer of complexity.

However, a Taiwanese news outlet suggests that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 for Galaxy devices might be fabricated on Samsung’s 3nm GAA Plus (GAP) node starting in 2025.

Looking further ahead, TSMC is also developing a 2nm node, but their focus will likely be on Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro and Macs expected in 2026. This could set the stage for a future 2nm rivalry between Apple and Samsung.
