This year, the price hike from Spotify is between $1 to $2, with a new plan excluding audiobooks.
The upcoming price hike is part of an overhaul in existing subscription plans. The cost is $1 per month for individual plans while $2 per month for duo and family plans.
These prices are for Australia, Pakistan, the UK, and two other unnamed markets. The platform’s biggest market, the US, will also get a price hike later in the year.
But why raise prices? Allegedly, the price hike is to help cover the cost of audiobooks – a new offering from Spotify. If you don’t know, subscribers can get up to 15 hours of audiobook listening a month and the company must pay publishers for those audiobooks. All that listening time is “free” if you’re a premium user.
That said, a new plan will be introduced and it only features music and podcasts – no audiobooks. It’s expected to be priced the same as the current individual premium plan. From here, users must pay for audiobooks.
If you’ve been following the high-fidelity audio, it may arrive this year. It’s currently rumored the “supremium” plan but no details have been announced yet.
As of writing, Spotify Philippines offers the following plans:
Plan | Cost | Benefits |
Premium Mini | ₱7 for 1 day | 1 mobile only, offline listening for 30 songs, basic audio quality |
Premium Student | ₱75 for 2 months (₱75/month after) | Discount for eligible students, 1 verified Premium account, subscribe or one-time payment |
Premium Individual | ₱149 for 2 months (₱149/month after) | 1 Premium account, subscribe or one-time payment |
Premium Duo | ₱199 for 2 months (₱199/month after) | 2 Premium accounts |
Premium Family | ₱239 for 2 months (₱239/month after) | Up to 6 Premium accounts, control content marked as explicit |
Without further details, we can’t tell how much the price hike would be in PH. But better expect the plans to change this year.
